I'm curious, which version of Petz does everyone prefer? Why do you like that particular version of the game? What are some pro/cons to owning P4 over P5?
Let's get a P4/P5 discussion thread going on!

Since this is a poll/discussion, it goes in the polls board. There have been other petz polls there too. ^^

And for my answer, I don't think there needs to be a "vs." per se. In fact, I've noticed that those things tend to get very..well..immature..sometimes.
Now, I personally prefer P5 for the litters aspect along with a few other things. If they could somehow incorporate those into a more P4 type game though, without having to breed the parents 4 times to get 4 puppies..well, then I'd be more apt to play P4.
As for what I'd reccomend..it depends on what the person is more interested in. I like to breed, so the litters part appeals to me more.

I played P4 wayyy before I ever got P5 and always liked that one better lol. P5, for me, has too many glitches, has a tendency to crash and isn't as versatile is P4. You can't get backwards compatibility like you get with P3 and P4, and anything you do convert ends up losing any lineage it had. I DO have P5 for my FRHs, but that's only because I refuse to convert because I don't wanna lose Loki's sparkling personality rofl.
P4 is where everything else is, because it allows EVERYONE to adopt Petz I breed and while I was in the PKC, it was just more favored by a lot of the players.

I use P5 more often. I like the breeding better, and I don't see any huge problems with it. A lot of my petz are P5, and since I can just convert my P4ers into P5, it's more convenient for me.

P3-4 for the win. Seriously, I can't stand P5. I hate the ugly new breeds, I hate the immature mini-games and ~pet care certificates~, I hate the incompatibility issues, I hate the way Ubisoft warped PFM's work way out of recognition. I dislike the litter feature, I think it's just asking for glitches/bugs, and I hate the fact my petz refused to pose or behave normally in the P5 surroundings. The playscenes look crud too - all 2D and childishly bright. I just can't think of any feasible reason anyone would want to use it. lol. Then again people consider those with P3/4 "boring" so I guess there's a truce there

Since this is a poll/discussion, it goes in the polls board. There have been other petz polls there too. ^^ Opps, my bad! Sorry Selena ^^ I got my hands on a copy of P4 the other day. I find its way easier to pose in, and lawrdy I missed that playpen. Sure I could make one in P5 but its so much... clicking, haha. It's not really the same. Some things I don't like from it are the little intro scenes to the different places that play every time you load a scene up, and the VERY small carrying case (give me an extra row! I'd be happy with the same sized carrier in Petz 2.) I"m sure I'll find more nit-picking the more I play.

I still like Petz 3 better! Between Petz 4 and 5, I prefer Petz 4 because I can bring adopted Petz into Petz 3.

And I hate how you have to win all the toyz. Wtf is with that? :/ haha

The grooming section is the clothes closet in P5, that's where all the clothes go.
Personally, I enjoy the carrying case that holds all the toys. I always found it tedious to go back and forth to get what I wanted from the toy closet.
To each their own though. ^^

I prefer p4 simply because it means that I don't get as many glitches... my computers have a history of hating p5 & messing it up. Not to mention there's already glitches in the game itself. Even so, I enjoy the mini-games (who doesn't have an inner child that wants to vapourise scarab beetles?) and the handy carrying case.
I like p4 personalities, and the breeds. The only new breed from P5 that I like are the Jack Russels, and even they have some problems.... so yeah, p4 for me. It means I get to adopt to/from more people, too, though there's an increasing number of p5 users.

I honestly can say I haven't noticed more glitches with P5. I HAVE noticed my P4 petz tend to corrupt when I use Runaway Rescue, and my P5 petz rarely if *ever* do.
I lost my favorite bred dog that way.
For me, P5. Pros:
* Don't have to go back to the toy room all the time to get toys. * Considerably more attractive playscenes. * Nursery. * Weather. * Night and day cycles. * Catz get in this posing loop, and it's very, very easy to get a good shot from them. * Four babies to a litter. * You can click a petz gender icon and immediately get all their info, as well as Rename or Return them right from there. * You can 'wash' your pet (which I really like to do). * Hummingbirds!
Cons: * No backwards compatibility. * Might be harder to pose dogs.
P4 Cons:
* Crappy JPEG looking playscenes. * Have to go back and forth to the toy closest to get stuff. * No weather. * No night and day cycle. * Only one baby. * You can't wash your pet. * You have to scroll through all your petz to get to their information, and you have to go to a completely separate list to rename or return them. * That big blank white screen that comes up all the time when I'm choosing which pet to bring out. * As far as I can tell, P4 has no adorable little hummingbirds.
Pros: * Backwards compatibility. * Sometimes can pose dogz easier.

^ I think the white screen is a Vista/XP thing. My old '98 computer never did that... and my catz NEVER pose in P5. Ever. I've sat for three bored hours straight trying to get a pose out of three catz, a russian, a b&w and coon. None of them would. o-o I can get poses in p4 really easily.

@lox: What's wrong with no toy closet? I didn't like it that if I wanted to do something that required a lot of items that I had to take 2 trips. And there is a clothes closet? The only difference is that it's set up differently and has a bath. I agree about the toy-winning and the playpen-loss though. Total shame.

I like the toy closet, but I want a bigger carrying case! Did anyone play Petz II? When you had both Catz & Dogz you got an extended case... I think that would be a perfect size. Sometimes scrolling through the P5 carrying case just to get one thing is tedious, but 9 spaces in the P4 case is too little for what I need.
I can pose cats very easily in P5, but I have NEVER gotten a dog to pose well. They go into pose for like... 3 seconds, then break and run around the room. And they never do a dane pose, only dali. Whereabouts today in P4 I managed to get some nice dali & dane shots from a CK Husky in almost no time <3

I personally don't care.. If P5 was backwards compatible I would use it more. -nods- I usually only breed in P4 so more people can adopt and I do like that it's more "simple" in design.
