Yeah, but you don't have to win the toys and it doesn't effect anything. Lots of 'loses' on a mini-game doesn't harm your pet, or the objective. That's why I think it's not a complete win/lose game, but petz is one in a way.
I still think runaway petz count as partially failing, and that's why it's a win/lose game. Like I said, it's not a complete one because you don't die or anything. And you can lose at Tamagotchi, since the pet DIES. xDD

^ With tamagotchis, there was a little 'reset' button at the back of the game So you couldn't really lose because you just got the pet back. Anyway nevermind. I might write a ~Why I Hate P5~ page to my webbie, so threads like this don't end up with little rants by hot heads like moi

You still lose though. Even if you reset it, you can reset most win/lose games. Like Spyro. You can die and lose at that, but you can turn the PS off and start again. Doesn't mean it's not a win/lose game. (I'm so out of touch that Spyro is the only thing I can think of. I'm old at sixteen years of age x-o).
I still don't like P5 as much, but I think it's the person's choice, and whichever they like the most they're perfectly entitled to play. Even if P4 is blatently better in my opinion, it might not be in others' eyes. I know Selena likes the litters feature <3.

(on the topic of 'why we hate p5' what the HECK is with the monkey in the asian scene?! it terrifies me like no other) That monkey ruins an otherwise lovely scene! Petz, in my opinion, is simply a simulator. I'm looking at the CD insert for my Catz II game right now and it says "... All the fun of owning lots of pets without needing kitty litter!" No where on my box does it state a goal- the point is simulated animal care. I think you learn from runaways, not lose the game. I dunno, did I get that message across right? I'm trying to say there's no real 'win-lose' to the games, in my opinion. As for P5 and those mini-games... I'm very 'eh' about them. On one hand yes, you do get all the toys you need. On the other hand though all the fun stuff like the catnip, which was standard up until P5, you had to win, which can be frustrating when you've gotten the same picture frame 6 times in a row. I think they could have given us more of the staple toys and made the newer items like the unicorn plush the win toys, or maybe give us like a little award or something more related to the mini-game (ie. picture of the knight if you beat him to hang on your wall) instead. As for those who say to just use Tinker, would the average newbie user to P5 even know what that is, let alone where to find it? I'm talking about someone like myself who has been out of the PC for years or doesn't even know a PC exists. They probably don't, so they are forced to do those mini-games to get the best out of the game (aka seeing your kitties high as a butterfly off catnip ).

^ all of that ;3
Tbh I'd prefer P3 over P4 anyday and I have both, but P4 is the most widely used program so I tend to stick with that for hexing ease.

Personally I like both P3/4 and P5 equally, in their own unique way they are great games. In P3/4 I'm sometimes irritated I can only bring 9 toys along, while in P5 it really irks me I must win toys first to be able to use them. Yet winning them gives a lot of statisfaction to me. It's a quick fun way to relax and feel good about yourself (or get frustrated and start kicking things). What I like about Petz is that it's having cats and dogs without having to call them in at night or walk them during a rainy november day. It's virutal, it's "fake" so to speak, and they don't get mad if you don't have time for them an entire week I don't hate how Ubisoft made P5, but I do hate how they 'milk' it now a days creating 1000x games named "Petz" for all consoles while they have forgotten about their original fans. They messed up the concept of Petz in my mind. Also I do not like the new breedz for Dogz5, but the Catz5 files are ok (expecially with the fixed furfiles). Lox, I thought there was no diffrence (except scenes) between P3 and P4, so why does it matter when hexing? I also have P3 and P5 installed, not P4 (although I do own the game).

Both P4 and P5 have disadvantages and advantages. I have more of soft spot on P5 because it was my first version in the petz games. I use P5 to care for my crew and to hex. I use P4 to breed petz and to hex. Had I started off in P4, I'd probably like it more. My crew is only in P5. So, I only "play" the game in P5. I like P5 more personally because I care for my pets with it. But I think P4 is the better game. If my pets were in P4 I would like it more than P5. <3 I hope that made sense. xD On a random side note, I was looking at the playscenes in LNZ Pro to see if I could remove the monkey & ect, and I saw this.... Creepy, yes?

I played Catz 1 and Dogz 1 and Dogz 2 but the first game I ever owned was Petz 3. I was so excited when P4 came out and I remember being a little disappointed because it was pretty much the same, and then P5 was gonna come out and I was super excited because, omg you could have 4 puppies! But then when I got it, it was so glitchy and I finally got a litter and I couldn't take the puppies to the backyard or anywhere...I could not for the life of me figure out how to do some of the mini-games and I had almost no toys for the longest time. I couln't even find their profiles so I could write all my little notes about their favorite food bowl and treats and their favorite toys... Luckily, I hadn't converted all of my petz into it, so a few weeks later when my cousin came to town and was playing it and my mom wanted to give her a copy, I said just take the original. Seriously, why can't we take the puppies and their mom to play somewhere and explore new places? That's probably what bothers me most about P5. I also think that people that have P5 will be less likely to switch to a lower version, simply because they can adopt anything they want now, why would they want to switch to P4 where they won't be able to adopt everything? Part of me wishes I could restrict my adoptions to P3-P4 users just to spite all the P5 people who don't know what it's like to not be able to adopt something, or adopt something and then have it not work because the breeder forgot to say "I have P5". But, I love adopting out pets I breed, and I love breeding for people, because it's just rewarding to breed someone a pet they really want. Personally, I'm willing to pass up any and all P5 adoptions (even though I own it, and have like 3 petz in it) because as far as breeding and showing goes, it sucks. And that white screen you get when you bring out a pet? It's because you put a pet away and the game is trying to un-grey the name in the pick-a-pet list, but you have the list open, so it semi-freezes. Just hit your handy "escape" key and it's all good.

Eh, I still personally think there's some win/lose in petz.
Getting off that topic though, could anybody ever figure out how to do the crazy weird Mr. Bones game in the Haunted House? I dropped my petz on the tiles, just like it said to, and 'lost' every time. o-o That's part of what I don't like about the mini-games. Some of them are just odd. The gopher (sp?) easy because I rule at noughts-and-crosses, the Arabian thing was just the easiest thing ever... But the Asian Temple, the Knight & Mr. Bones. xDD
They gave me many hours of frustration as a child.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever suffered a white screen before in P5? Aside from dogs that won't pose, painfully long start up times, and pets that have very little personality compared to their clones in P4, I never really had too many problems with it.
Weird, I found Mr. Bones easy and the gopher impossible to win at! xD Mind you I would drop my catz on a square and it wouldn't mark the one I dropped them on so that was probably why. And don't get me started on that darn monkey >___> Impossible!

Ninja: about Mr. Bones, I always held my petz lifted and then just dragged them all over the place. As for Gopher, he's annoying! The money is do-able if you have a pet that just follows the cursor well, and with lot's of patience. haha.

^ I loved Mr. Bones. :c I was always sad that I couldn't finish the mini-game. He reminded me of Jack the Pumpkin King.
