I thought I'd share this outgrowth of my insomnia the other night: a giant master genealogy chart of every Dogz dog I've seen born in Petz 4 (plus their mates), going all the way back to my very first Adoption Center rescue in 2001. For reference, all descendants are connected to their parents, with adopted mates placed in front. You might even recognize some of those adoptions. I might have gotten them from you! There are a few things I love about seeing this family tree laid out. I love seeing the progression of years -- where my spurts were (2007 was a big year, apparently), which Dogz were born in quick succession, and being able to remember what was going on in my life at those times. 2001 was freshman year of high school; 2014 was graduate school; 2019 was a big illness. It's like looking at strata. Except it's my life, measured in Dogz. Dogz Strataz. Along those lines, it's also funny to look at the names and see what was on my mind when puppies were born. Pyramid was named after Radiohead's "Pyramid Song" because I had just discovered the band in late 2001; Samus was born just after I played the original NES Metroid for the first time; Shelter was my first puppy born during COVID-19. I also really like being able to see at-a-glance who the cousins, aunts, uncles, etcetera are. Not for any particular reason, except that it's fun. I hadn't even thought about the fact that Tambo and Faith are great-great-grandparents now. :O Has anyone else done anything like this? I'd love to see other family trees, if you've got 'em!

Keyglyph, this. is. INSANE. I love this so much!! Dogz strataz lmao gaaah this is great! I love the sentimentalities you've attached to your dogz and how different parts/stages of your life have been captured by their lives. It's really sweet.
My crew is faaaar too large for something like this and I do not have any long-term breeding projects in the works right now that would have allowed me to create a family tree. I'd love to see if other PC members have done anything similar!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is the only way I can describe this impressive pedigree! my dogz family isn't quite as many generations but I would LOVE to do this someday I also like the meaningful interesting names attached to each dog and how it reminds you of different time periods in your life, that's pretty neat

Aw, thanks for the comments, you two. <3
Now I'm really interested to know how many Petz the average player has. I do have maybe a dozen more adopted Dogz that aren't pictured here because they have no relation to the Family (YET). They are awaiting their soulmates. But still, it seems my herd is smallish!
Even with its being small, though, trying to figure out the best way to arrange this took time... and I feel tired thinking about what will happen when Dogz in more congested areas of the chart pair off. Haha. @__@
I'd love to see any charts if anyone's inspired to make them, whether they be partial or full! My favorite part of the Petz games is the genetic inheritance, so by the time we get to grandkids I am totally fascinated.

This is so cool! I love seeing the differences as the tree branches out. I once tried doing something like this for my six oldest Petz--for a long while, every Petz I ever owned was either a descendant of at least one of those couples, or the mate of one of their descendants. It got a little unwieldy--I think I only made it three generations lol. I might have to try again, though! Sophisto and Pounder "only" have nine children--I could start with them and see how far I go before losing my mind

That's a very cool family tree you made! I like seeing how all the different dogz are related. I like looking at the family trees of my petz and seeing what interesting names and owners are in their ancestry. I've often thought it would be cool if they still had pictures of their family in the family tree even when the petz aren't in the game so when you adopted a pet from someone you could see all their relatives. But of course that would make .pet files way too huge so I understand why the game developers didn't make it that way.
I have lots and lots of petz, and most of them are not related, so I couldn't do a family tree like this for all my petz. But it just so happens I made little "pedigree" things recently for two of my dogz to show off their family history, so I could show you those.
There are the family trees of Harley and Sandman. And since I plan to breed those two when they hopefully become show champions, these family trees will get bigger and combined together!

Oh, what an elegant solution for presentation! You grid system is so very smart. I love this. Thank you so much for sharing.
I too have always wished I could see the profile pictures of my adopted dogz'z ancestors somehow. That mystery has pulled at me since day one.

Hey Meer , I drew a lot of inspiration from your super-clean data visualization and incorporated it into a standard template for displaying my nuclear petz families. Thank you for that! I've been calling the result a "family photo." Here's an example: Since all of my pairings involve a natural-born dogz and an adoption, only one side of the family's parents and grandparents are displayed. (In this example, it's October's side.) If the generations don't go back far enough, or parents/grandparents aren't known due to adoption, that information is left blank. I should have future-proofed for a possible pairing between two petz naturally born to me, but as of right now, all my non-adopted dogz are in some way descended from my original 2001 pairing. Maybe one day I'll start an entirely separate tree and bring meld the two of them together... but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. [laugh]

KeyGlyph that family photo idea of yours is really great! I like how it turned out. And I like the little legend with symbols for Adoption Center, Hexed, Adopted Out and so on. That's a really nifty way to easily tell that information for each pet without taking up too much space. I'm glad that I could inspire you to come up with that, that's very cool!

Guess what I've discovered? Once you've done the massive legwork of creating a genealogy tree, adding to it is a much easier task in comparison. It's really nice to know that after you get through the initial creation from scratch, it's a downhill ride. Upkeep has been fun! Now, I seriously doubt I'll be updating this thread regularly, but I did want to drop my expanded tree as of the end of June. I've had some especially beloved Dogz born into the crew. Also, it's kind of neat to see the growth. I've been focusing on three couples for family-building: Cabaret/Seaside, Klezmer/Ghost, and Temple/Charmer. Ghost and Seaside were both recent adoptions here on the boards from Willow ; Charmer was adopted from Over the Sunset Rescue Centre. I really want to talk about Charmer/Temple for a moment, because they have been a source of incredible joy for me. Both were Dogz I've had since 2014, but they only paired up and had puppiez this year.
Shelter, their firstborn, was the first dogz born to me after the coronavirus lockdown drove me back to the comforts of this game again. He took my breath away when he arrived and is immensely special to me. Where did that orange coat even come from?! And as the other siblings followed, I continued being absolutely IN LOVE with all of Temple and Charmer's children.
I am particularly thrilled that Temple's body shape and huge paws seem to be passing down so regularly. Her father Bear (originally owned by Kelli and adopted from an unknown website) is the origin of that stocky build, but he only passed it to two of five offspring: Temple and her sister Icecap. To my surprise, Temple's genes seem more dominant than her dad's, and it's just... I love it so much. I had always hoped it would be more prevalent among Temple's generation. I want scads of stubby, chubby puppiez! And now I may be getting them! Just look at Trek's little feets!!
I can't get over the other wonderful combinations of traits that are manifesting in this family, either. I mean, I could go on and on. And maybe I will. But I'll save it for another day. :)

Wow these are all so amazing! Each style has really great aspects to it. I'd be interested in doing this for some of my lines too. I already have it all down in an excel spreadsheet but not utilizing pictures. Thanks for sharing! I also enjoy seeing the way traits get passed down.

Aw, thanks Sakura ! And sorry for the extremely late reply. I've been away from the game and the forums for a few months (which feel like years), but I've been drawn back into the soothing world of Petz organization. The family tree has been brought up-to-date as of today, and we've have some fun developments along the way!
I want to start off be celebrating the beginning of a new family line which I think is going to result in some very unique puppiez. Traveller, the mom, has become one of my favorite home-grown Dogz in an amazingly short amount of time. She just has such a unique and wirey look to her, was unusually tiny as a puppy, and has a distinct pointed face that is SO hound dog. She often makes me think of Hush Puppy from Lamb Chop's Playalong. And speaking of distinct faces, with her we have Odo, an adoption from 2014 (!!) from RKC's own kiwio who has finally found his forever mate. Odo's namesake is the eponymous character of similarly unique visage from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. This dog has made me completely fall in love with the bulldog personality, and I cannot wait for his lovely mug to get passed down to his offspring!
Our next line is another deeply-beloved pair, Charmer (adopted from Over the Sunset Kennel) and Temple, whose firstborn Shelter was my first "pandemic puppy." That is to say, Shelter was my first dog born after lockdown was declared and I turned to Petz for some comforting relief from the crisis. All of the siblings that followed in Shelter's pawsteps were named after some significant event or activity that colored my existence during the pandemic. Shelter = Shelter-at-home orders Strum = Learning ukulele Pin = Marking up Ultima III maps / Watching All Elite Wrestling Trek = Starting a Star Trek rewatch from TOS onward Boba = Treating myself to golden boba tea on very tough days Condo = Moving into a condo
Charmer and Temple's puppybearing days are past them now, as Condo was the perfect joyful conclusion to my struggle with upheaval and depression during this awful year of 2020. Finally, that sheepie half coat got passed along! And another happy note in all this is that Boba is destined to mate with a Sodapup adoption from gingerade named Rootbeer, and all of those puppies will be named after different tea flavors and toppings. So fun.
Lastly, we have the pair of Cabaret and Seaside, the latter of whom was adopted from RKC's own Willow . I'd never really worked with OW files before, so these two had a LOT of puppiez before I was convinced some genetics weren't passing down. After some help from Willow these two had a successful IVF round that gave them Bubbly, an absolutely gorgeous champagne-like standout whose own offspring I so look forward to seeing. JUST LOOK AT HER LITTLE NUBBIN TAIL AND FIZZY KNEES I CAN BARELY STAND IT
Samurai is also sneakily interesting, because with the exception of one or two spots on their paws, they only have dalmatian markings on the right side of their body. So cool!
So, right now we're focused on expanding Traveller and Odo's family, raising up a lot of adoptions, and then hopefully starting our fifth generation in the near future with some sodapup descendants! Hope everyone out there has been surviving all right and has had many Petz happinesses of their own. <3

Ah, Rho, you got me a little verklempt there. I've missed you too! I was so glad to see you're as active as ever. I forgot to mention that I am also raising up one of my adoptions from you, who will definitely be married into the Traveller/Odo family. The color schemes just feel right to me... you'll see. :)

I feel like I had a lot of catching up to do-- but I love this little family tree so much-- I don't know if I could do this myself-- I have way too many petz with all sorts of stories and I switch constantly after they have kids ;o; (and I love adopting from other members of the PC)
But I love what you've done so much <3
