I've done way too many overcomplicated hexes recently, so I decided it was time to go in the opposite direction and came up with a self-challenge. Hex a P2+ breed to look like it might have done if it existed in P1. This means stripping back on a lot of things:
No addballz. I have to remove all addballz from the breedfile from the start, with the exception of the utility addballz that aren't visible anyway.
No paintballz! I have to remove all of those too. I might make one exception to allow some very small paintballz to mimic the speckle parameter on P1 breeds since the actual column does nothing in later games, but that's it.
No textures, unless absolutely necessary. I'm only allowing myself textures on the Dalmatian and Tabby, and even then they can't be too detailed. I'll probably use the 102 Oddballz texture for the dali, not yet sure for the tabby.
No variations.
You get the picture, if it's not in P1, I can't have it, or can only have it under strict conditions. Also, all dogs have to be missing the middle right toe to mimic the P1 bug.
First of all is my attempt at a P1 poodle. I think it's ok, but it still feels like it's not quite there yet. Any thoughts?

Oh wow, that really does look like it could be from the original game! Great job recreating that look!

I think I figured out what it was missing, speckles. The Speckle column does nothing in P2+, but I made some fake ones with paintballz and they made everything look a lot more authentic.
Poodle, subtle speckling:
After that I had a go at the Sheepdog, the speckles added a lot here. Not much to change but it got a lot rounder.
And a Dalmatian I'm partway through. This was the one where I had to break my own rules and use textures. I still think it needs work, it's not quite there... but I want to sit on it for now.
Lab and Dachshund will be coming later.
