I'm curious to understand what happened to pose shows. They used to be so big and popular when I started the forum 14 years ago (and for years after that, still). Do you remember the time when pose shows were many to choose from and filling so fast that some were judged on the very same day they were started? Reaching the coveted SGCh title with 30 points would take just a few weeks, or even less if you entered lots of shows with a great pose. I miss shows. They were the drive behind playing the game for me. To me, playing Petz meant breeding interesting pairs, sometimes injecting fresh blood into my lines from adopted petz, hoping I would get a unique-looking mixie to fall in love with (and put the rest up for adoption). I would then have a posing photoshoot with the special little one and show him/her off to the world in the show ring until we reached at least 30 points for the SGCh title (I just counted my old show petz out of curiosity and have 443 SGCh-titled petz! Must have had a lot of time on my hands back then, lol!) They were all so special to me that, even now, years later, I still remember most of their names and genders! (can't remember what I had for lunch though). I still have all 443 of them, and I love using them for breeding because... we went through the show ring together and they're special That's what "playing Petz" was to me. I still love breeding, because I love to have the surprise of what I'm going to get, always hoping for a unique-looking one to steal my heart. But then what? It'll just stay on my hard disk, unseen by anybody... what's the point? I miss show... Anyway, I wonder how you feel about shows in general, if you used to show your petz in the past, why you stopped, if you miss them too, if you don't care about them any more, or never have. You can select as many answers as applies to you. ^ Scarlet & Gravitar, who will never earn an SGCh title ^

I wasn't around when shows were very popular but I picked 3 answers here which were: I don't know how to pose petz / seems too difficult or complicated. I don't open pose shows because I don't know how to judge poses. I WOULD enter my petz in shows if... (elaborate below).
I've not looked too much into pose shows, I find that pics are normally broken or there aren't always many guides (this isn't a specific rkc but just a pc thing).
But to elaborate on my answers: I would open shows but I have no idea what I'm doing lol. There's a lot of tiny specific things to judge and I'm not sure I'd be a good judge. That and I know certain breedfiles will pose differently so I'm not sure if I trust myself to judge shows with petz with different bodies and such.
As for entering, I would but I think I lack patience lol xD I'm not good at getting petz to pose.
And for the I would enter my petz in shows question, it's mainly the posing issue. I may have some petz that might have good poses but they probably have a few things off (bad eyelids, tail position, idk) that I'm not sure how to fix besides taking a bunch more pictures and testing my luck. I don't know if pose services were ever a thing but it'd be helpful haha xD or maybe a place/ thread to track your points.
To basically sum up my post, there's a lot of criteria for judging so I'm afraid I wouldn't be a good judge for shows. As for entering, I'm not sure I have the patience or skill to get poses faces right in the correct position. If I had some good pics I'd love to enter though! And sorry for all the grammar mistakes! I'm on mobile and will fix this when on a computer.

Basic show posing I never did because I just never understood how to get the "perfect" pose. Same for judging, all poses looked the same so I didn't know how to judge.
I do agree with you though RQ. Shows are a really nice way to show off petz and I personally have been looking for ways to bring that back into the PC as well in the ways I can.
My crew is 99% hexies so I think adding that on top of not knowing exactly how to pose petz is the reason I'm not sure I could get into it. I have been meaning to try out the breeding part of petz (It's always been the hexing that brought/kept me here) and maybe read up on some posing guides and contribute to some show entries.

I extremely miss pose shows <3 I honestly love going back through the archives and seeing people's old petz! Pose shows are what totally got me hooked and they definitely bring back that nostalgia feeling. I do remember when shows were something that took sooo long to get into! Many would be overfilled! It took me a month or two to get my last dogz titled to SGCh; and that was in 2014. Not even that long ago! Sad to see that energy just slowly wiping away though with so many new members Since my start of petz way back, I have joined various forums. Shows were something I always looked for, and once they lacked publically, I found the Petz Kennel Club and became very excited! Unfortunately, it does take a while for shows to be judged and it is competitive. But that overall pride of getting your petz to a certain achievement, takes the cake. There is nothing honestly like it (sounds weird, but trust me it's a very fun payoff)! Plus, it's just a bummer that those titles you worked so hard to get for your virtual pals, doesn't get recognized at all anymore unless you're at the PKC. I remember when having a special champion show dogz puppies was all the rage, even when it was a mixie! Petz was super involved then! Not only that, but you got to really play petz, which was never boring. There was something new to do each time a show opened up and every time your petz got points! Don't get me wrong, I still love my petz without the showing, it's just really hard to see something like it go. It was certainly a chance to see what petz people had! I remember PMing people in the earlier days to ask what breed their petz were LOL It was pretty embarrassing, but I had so much fun! I would love love love to see more shows opened and especially see more people entering them! It's definitely something to just try; even if you don't get it right, it's so much fun! It's honestly easy to get the hang of after some practice. I would 100% love to help people if they really want to show too!

I used to enter shows way back when, and when I came back to PC last year, I was surprised to see that there aren't really any shows anymore. I wish there were! PKC is a bit too intense and formal for what I have time/patience for, so I enjoyed how casual and less strict the shows here were. I also prefer it over normal show offs because I sometimes find it hard to caption show off posts without sounding really lame or repetitive, lol. It's really unfortunate that it's no longer a "thing."
As for the posing issue, I feel like with the right tutorials and comparison shots, it'd be easy for people to learn the general aspects of what good poses are! I also think that as far as bred petz goes, a lot of people don't use external breedfiles nowadays (at least with regards to what gets adopted/shown off on RKC), so I don't think there'd be too much of an issue with that. Or if someone feels uncomfortable judging non-OB files, they can always create shows for OB breeds only!
I'd be willing to open up shows, but like the others have said, there's a lot of little things I'm probably unaware of with judging and don't want to judge incorrectly, lol.

Showing was the reason I joined the Petz community, the reason I began playing Petz again as an adult. I show dogs in real life and found "online showing" with virtual petz thrilling. I used to show the realistic showy pkc breedz because they looked the best in pose and were all the rage, but soon I found an appreciation for OBs and began showing them instead. It took a while, but I finally figured out how to pose and how to judge. Nowadays, I specialize in OBs as I find them more fun and interesting to pose/judge. Its always exciting when you get a good pose and enter a show eager to see how it does. I remember the heyday of showing and really miss it. I can see why it is not done much anymore, posing takes a long time and much patience and most players can't be bothered or don't know what a good pose is or how to judge. Sadly, many of the good guides are gone. Showing is a great way to show off your adopted petz as mentioned. That's the main way I show off mine! Here are the choices I voted in the poll: "I used to enter shows but stopped because there aren't enough shows to enter."
There used to be at least like 5 shows open at one time that filled quickly, opened by a variety of people, but sadly there's only like 3 people that regularly open shows now. The lack of judges makes showing tedious, as I don't like to show the same dog to the same judge twice. "I used to enter shows but stopped because shows now take too long to fill/judge."
Lately this has been the issue. Many people open shows and then go AWOL. Their shows stay full for months before one of the few active judges ends up judging them. Or shows stay stuck on a few entries for months. These things discourage me from entering shows nowadays. "I don't open pose shows because they take too long to fill."I used to love opening shows and judging them, but sadly, only about a couple people regularly enter shows now. I don't bother opening them now because I know they won't fill up... (If anyone is interested in entering shows, there are a few shows on WhiskerWick that are open, as well as some on Riverbend Show Ring, help get them filled up!^^)

I'm surprised about the responses so far! I thought people had mostly lost interest or didn't have the time, and then of course the fact there are few shows and they're slow to fill and judge. Back in the days, there were guides and exemples available, and plenty of people around to give advice. I never really thought about the fact so many Petz site went down, and with them the guides. So it seems showing has become an arcane art, and that it is missed! I would definitely be willing to make a guide on posing and judging catz. I'm not as good with dogs (I find those buggers MUCH harder to pose than catz), but I could still create a dogz guide, maybe with some help/advice from someone better with dogz than me -- unless someone wants to volunteer for a dogz guide (I would also need to know if petz behave/pose in the same manner in Petz 4 at least, because I only have Petz 5). Koda: yes, the pride of getting the SGCh title! That was something! And the pleasure of showing our petz off along the way was so nice too. It was really exciting to breed a nice pet (or have a special hexie) and go through the process with it. And I loved to look at other people's petz, too. If there are enough positive responses from people willing to try getting the shows back to life, maybe we can do it! PS: I do have a 5-entry catz show, and a 5-entry dogz show open right now... each waiting for only 2 entries until I can judge them (and I promise I will judge them immediately!)

I'd be super interested in pose shows if resources became available for them again! I had no interest since when I started lurking around the PC as I was late to the party and there were no guides anymore. Doing both the judging and showing sounds like a really fun way to pass the time though and a fun way to play Petz, so I'd be totally up for learning!

I've been MIA and therefore not showing for like, 2 years now haha. However I have a crew of over 50 pets right now that are show-ready! I also don't have much time but I do know how to pose dogs and judge dog shows. I could attempt to write a guide... it could either not take very long at all, or take forever haha. I know I posted a pretty good basic guide somewhere once so I might be able to dig that up and expand on it.
Here's my two cents on the shows specifically here at RKC though....I think they're a little intimidating with the rules and different sections? I know that that was necessary when there were a ton of different shows and lots of people showing, but now that the community has slimmed down, I feel like the express shows section could just go away and people could hold "Everybody Wins" shows, express shows, or standard shows all in the same section, as long as they're titled right. I remember being super scared to host shows here since the rules for opening and judging a show (some within 24 hours of filling) seemed a little strict.

If not, maybe you can help me with a few questions I might have if I end up writing the dog guide too. I never thought of that, but it's a good point. It was crazy back then and seemed like a necessity indeed, but we could probably change things a bit now, simplify the rules, etc. I'll talk to the other mods and look into it when I have a minute!

I never knew people did this sort of thing to be honest and well, can't say much about it other than saying that this is one thing I would not do because it would just be a waste of time, and I wouldn't know if it's really worth it for me to enter them either. However, I don't mind anyone using a Petz from me for it as long as they get my consent first.
There are some nice ones I have, out of my crew or random ones I bred that may be fit for showing but, I wouldn't commit myself to this at all.

However, I don't mind anyone using a Petz from me for it as long as they get my consent first. It was customary for people showing petz they adopted from someone else to show where it came from in their show name, by adding that other person's "prefix" or name in front of their own prefix. For instance, I have a hexed cat Star made for me named Allegra, who's show name is "RKC's Come Back". Because it originally came from Star, this cat's show name is actually "Star/RKC's Come Back". So if someone adopted a cat from you and wanted to show it, they would have to add "Catman/..." in front of their own prefix. This way everybody knows that's where the pet came from, without the need to ask for permission. You can actually decide what your own prefix would be in your adoptions if you don't want it to be "Catman" -- you would specify "Please use WHAT YOU WANT HERE in your prefix if you show the pet.

I voted "I used to enter shows but stopped because there aren't enough shows to enter." Because I did use to show a few catz of mine, and I wasn't in the PC when Shows were extremely popular but it was really nice when there were more shows. I would love to get back into showing catz and dogz too, that's why I hosted a dog show and I might host another one at some point when I have time because I'm trying to help keep shows/showing alive Showing itself is also fun but another fun aspect is breeding titled petz with a high amount of show points so I could have a pet with show lineage, which gives them a better chance at shows and being adopted.

I would tell people to use "Genome" or maybe "GNM" instead, just for anonymity's sake. When one person obtained a Petz from me and wanted to show it, I was not prepared at all, even though I would've wanted that person to use his/her own prefix instead when it's theirs now. A little off-topic but how do people come up with show names? Does it have to be completely random or something in relation to the Petz itself, much like how it is in real life? I think one can do either way but I'm just curious.

For example, I show on Seeing Stars (the petz horse forum) and typically pick a name based on a game, food, or something that reminds me of the horse. My orange horse is "Pollution's Autumn Equinox." I know other people like to use song lyrics. Also in your last post you said showing might be a waste of time. To be honest as long as you have the poses ready you can just copy and paste them into shows and it doesn't take much time to enter. The posing part definitely takes time :/
