I would tell people to use "Genome" or maybe "GNM" instead, just for anonymity's sake. When one person obtained a Petz from me and wanted to show it, I was not prepared at all, even though I would've wanted that person to use his/her own prefix instead when it's theirs now. Well... if you prefer to stay anonymous and wouldn't want people to know a cat being shown came from you, you don't have to ask people to use a show prefix for you. It's only if you do want people to know a pet being shown originally came from you. It's kind of a "pride" and "lineage" kind of thing... you don't have to participate if you don't want to. I personally think it's fun It doesn't have to be anything -- people are completely free to pick show names for their petz, as long as it has their prefix in front of it. I looooooooove to pick show names for my petz!! I usually go with something that is either related to their looks or that pairs well with their call name. For instance, I love to make puns or come up with silly little things that binds their call name with their show names in some way, like this: Call name: Comma Show name: RKC's Punctuation Is Important Call name: Cellulite Show name: RKC's Fat Chance Call name: Quiz Show name: RKC's Question Me Not Call name: Mistake Show name: RKC's Cherished Derelict Call name: Pyrotechnics Show name: RKC's Brilliant Display Things like that But that's just me. Other people do it their own way, of course. I think it's tons of fun to come up with show names, and maybe even make people smile or think "wow, what a cool show name!"

I believe I was the first to ask you @catman89 haha It was exactly for the reason that RQ pointed out; I want to give you the credit you deserved for breeding that pet Not everyone wants a prefix/kennel/cattery name and that's fine! It's purely for the fun & authenticity of the game! For example, adopting a pet from an old lineage that was well known is really cool, but again this is entirely up to each person. I know there are some lines the go ages back, and seeing descendants around in shows today is a treat! Show names take me decades to think of LOL It's hard enough trying to think of a fitting call name for the particular pet, but a show name... gahh! Show names are just unique little "taglines" that you believe fits your pet best. Another example of show names usage (piggy backing off the rest lol) would just be to identify that pet. There could be a million of dogz called 'Lucky', but you could be the only one with a show name of 'APK's Just My Luck'. Quirky, simple, cute, remarks are all it takes to come up with a show name. I have a dog called 'Peanut' with the show name of 'MSK's Peanut Butter'. Not original, but it does fit BTW if anyone needs help with guides, I'm always available with a simple PM This topic is getting me pumped to get into showing again omg I also can give tips on judging a show if need be? I judge companion (shows that are comprised of mixed breed petz & petz that don't fit standards) over at the PKC and would be happy to give some insight lol Adding; if you get the right pose one time, there is a guarantee you can get another pose in the future! Your petz actually learn to pose when the camera clicks after multiple 'sessions'. You do not have to get new pics for each show, just reuse them until you have the time or want to swap out an old pic.

I would love to pose, but the only problem is, when I'm taking photos and trynig to get my dogs to pose, they just stick their paws over their faces the whole time. Aggh. It's so annoying.

Several people, me included, are currently working on getting some great posing & judging guides, with examples and all, for both dogz and catz. Will be available soon

The two I voted for were:
1) I used to enter shows but stopped because there aren't enough shows to enter. 2) I used to enter shows but stopped because shows now take too long to fill/judge.
I have been missing a while, before I left there were always 10+ shows open and they would fill up quickly (it wasn't a problem as there was always others to enter). Shows had this great vibe and back then I used to use it as a way to show off petz as well as reach that SGCh title. Because of the popularity back then shows had a good momentum and you would always see so many different petz being shown off as you could reach the SGCh title quickly. There were a variety of shows, EBW, express, hexies, even colour specific which made things a bit more exciting.
Since coming back I have opened up a few shows but to be honest it's a bit of a drag. My last show didn't get full, so I had to judge it at about 8 entries, because not many people seem interested you always get the same people entering usually with the same petz (because it takes so long for the poor things to reach their SGCh title) and then it just stalls while you hope someone will come and fill the remaining slots. I entered a few too but because it takes so long to fill and judge I kinda forget about them and then don't ever check to see if my petz have placed.
I always remember more prizes being available before too. I used to do 'smudgies' or whatever they were called, and others would do little prize banners which 17 year old me used to be all over, now...not so much. I'm not sure if an updated prize system would work, so instead of trying to reach a title you got points which you could redeem for something?
Shows have no momentum anymore, so they just kinda stagnate. It's sad as I love showing and opening shows :/

I would definitely like to look into something like this if we can come up with a plan that would work! Any suggestions? All I can say is that I'm going to do my best to revive shows (will be changing and adding a few things soon), and hopefully the people of RKC who've been missing shows or are interested in trying them for the first time will actively help by entering and opening new shows, too.

I may have a *few* ideas..... I'm not sure how a new point system would work, but the obvious prizes would be bred and hexed petz, but also things like custom titles and more artistic prizes could be a fun idea too (if the creative people of RKC could pool together) You could do av/sig of the winning pet, little doodles etc. Maybe a hall of fame where you put all the pics of petz who have reached a certain amount of points. I also thought maybe some competitions could have trophies or medals that people could collect, I don't know if it is possible to create/find images somewhere of trophies which could either be personalised or put somewhere with the winners below? I think it would be cool if there was a board where everyone could have their own thread they manage where they can add their show petz and use it to keep a tally of points. It just seems a shame that people's petz get the SGCh title and then (unless you have a crew site) it never really gets mentioned/noticed. It would be a cool place for people to show off any trophies/medals their pet has received too. What I also thought was that it would be fun if we could do some less formal shows? So instead of only holding standard pose shows we could to dress-ups, agility (pics of peoples petz jumping through hoops kinda thing). A who wore it better show where people can vote on petz dressed up in the same outfit. We could have a miss/mr world where everyone picks a country and dresses up their pet to represent that country(lol). Also how about a newbie pose show where it's like the EBW's but they get critique at the end too? IDK just a few ideas I have floating around in my head, not sure if it would all work but if you need any help with any of it I am a willing volunteer

I may have a *few* ideas..... I love all those ideas! One of our mods actually suggested having pixel graphics to add to our signatures as collectable rewards. That's a great idea, too. The only problem with the prizes/rewards is that it would create a LOT of work for some people, and require a lot of maintenance and dedication, and creative people willing to participate. I'm not sure anybody would have the time to keep up with so many things. The individual threads idea, where people could display their show petz and keep track of points is actually excellent and very easy to implement! We could just add a board dedicated to this, and I think it would incite people to show their petz and open shows! Going to look into this for sure! About the less formal shows... I love them! I used to open looks/fun shows, and even had funny-pics show on my site (way back when) with people voting on the funniest. I would love to see less formal shows come back to RKC!

I really miss frisbee shows! Mostly because I have some dogs with frisbee points and poses and nowhere to show them, so they'll be stuck at 3 pts forever haha.

I'm glad you like the ideas I agree too with prizes being very high maintenance which is why I thought trophies/medals might be easier, but it looks like you guys have already thought of that too. I will definitely think about opening some different types of shows

I chose "I don't know how to pose petz / seems too difficult or complicated," "I don't open pose shows because I don't know how to judge poses," "I WOULD enter my petz in shows if... (elaborate below)," and "Other." I've been playing Petz for a really long time but when it was all the rage back in the day, shows seemed intimidating to me. Plus, I was pretty into the breeding aspect. I didn't think I would ever win at shows, so I just didn't try to enter them. But you're absolutely right that I want to show my petz off and I think showing is a good way of bonding and getting to know a pet. Yesterday I entered my first show ever, and then entered a couple more. The pose I entered wasn't great, but I put it in a couple EBW shows and am really excited to get my first show points ever, after having played Petz almost 20 years! So yeah, I don't know how to pose the best. There are a few guides out there, and thanks for putting up a new guide here in the forum! I am willing to learn. I would love to judge shows but right now, when I look at the entries and predict who was the winner, and then look at who won BIS, 1st, etc., I am usually not right, which makes me think there's something I'm not getting. And now that I want to show, I'm realizing how few shows are being run and it's kind of discouraging on that front too. I am definitely on board with beefing up the show ring here. I recently joined PKC and wow @.@ I'm still wading through it but it seems overwhelming at the moment. Until I get competent enough to run my own shows, though, let me know if I can help with prizes--breeding petz or trying my hand at graphics. I don't know how people feel about this, but I collect postcards and if a winner of a show was willing to give me their address, I could send them a link to my postcard albums and they could choose one & I'd send it to them (using hobbies to support other hobbies yay). Since I decided to start showing a couple days ago I've felt more into Petz than I have been since I was in elementary/middle school so I definitely want this to work

Oh and I wanted to add that I'm kind of shy on the internet (oddly, I'm more shy online than I am in RL), so even though I often have questions I am reluctant to make new threads or ask for help over and over. Maybe a big "posing help thread" might be useful, like just a big thread where people post a picture, a few people might chime in with critiques of it, and then another person posts a picture, etc. A lot of times the poses do seem really similar to me, and the guides tell you what to aim for, but that specific feedback might be really useful.

^^Congrats on entering your first show! I just did that as well I joined PKC a while back but can't even figure out how to enter shows lol. Then again, I haven't looked hard. I guess across all the forums there's a good amount of shows (but not always too many on each individual forum) but luckily they seem to be getting active here again! And I get what you mean about asking questions, sometimes it takes me months to make a thread asking for help. A general show help thread could definitely be looked into! Also please just edit your post instead of double posting thanks!

I would love to judge shows but right now, when I look at the entries and predict who was the winner, and then look at who won BIS, 1st, etc., I am usually not right, which makes me think there's something I'm not getting. You're probably getting everything, just each judge has a slightly different opinion and knowledge base. Sometimes they can be biased, just like in RL. A judge who has owned and shown Herding breeds for 30+ years might be more likely to place them in shows because that's what they know the best, so they feel like they 100% know a good Herding dog when they see one, but might only be 85% sure about a Hound so they'll still place the Hound, but lower than a more experienced Hound judge would've placed it... It's the same kind of thing with Petz shows. Some judges are more cat people, some are more dog people, and some even have specific breeds they like more than others. For instance, they might place a perfectly good Lab pose lower than a not-as-good Dalmatian pose, just because they know Dalmatians better, they like them more, or they pose "prettier". There's a bunch of "mini guides" out there for Dalmatians and Danes and almost nothing on any other breeds so that's why I put a lot of OBs in my guide, because breed discrimination is a thing and if judges are like "oh crap, someone entered a Bulldog and I've never seen one before" they have somewhere to go to get an idea of whether that Bulldog has a good pose or not, without just handing it an HM like "idk". I'd also like to point out that there are no regulations on how judges need to figure out the order of their placements, so there is no wrong way to do it. However, I know sometimes I will avoid certain judges or only post certain poses in their shows because I feel they're biased in some way. In the end though, these are just pixels, this is just a game, so none of it really matters except that you are having fun. ♥Edit: Also, if you don't want to create a thread for pose critique, you can always PM me and I'll be happy to help, especially if it's dog poses because I know those a lot better than cat poses.

^^I know I'm not the one you're quoting but this post really helped.
I do the same thing as paige (look through judged shows and see if I'd place petz the same) and I find that sometimes I'd place them quite differently. But after reading this I think I may finally try to host shows!
