I'm pretty much totally green when it comes to posing Dogz, and while I think I'm making progress with Dickory (who thankfully is very cooperative and poses for me readily), I just wanted to get a second (or third or fourth) opinion that I'm progressing in the right direction. For reference, here's the pose I had of him before... Not very good, I know. ^^; Here's what I've gotten tonight. My thought is that the leg alignment is better, but the head still looks... off to me, somehow. Is that thought warranted? And is there anything else I'm missing? (Luckily with his bobtail I don't need to worry about his tail curve, lol) Thanks in advance for any help. ETA: And how is Jellyroll looking? I think hers looks the best so far, but again, just want to make sure what the general consensus is.

I do see what you mean about the head... thinking #1 is the best for it... Jellyroll looks good, I'd say just have her a liiiiiittle closer to the camera - but we're talking pixels here. Good job Commander

You are certainly heading in the right direction!
The leg alignment is MUCH improved in your second set of photos with #1 being my favorite but the head is certainly off. It almost looks like the dog was doing something funky while posing? Not sure.
The head placement of Dickory's poses is much better than Jellyroll. The face is centered and much more level than Jellyroll, whose head is tilted. =) Much improved poses though!

Yay! Thanks for the advice. I'll keep working on the heads--I figured they were still a little off.

when snapping PFM Dalis in standard poses, I look for just two indicators that the dog is a) properly aligned, & b) at the highest breathing point (which I think in turn centres the head?) because my experience is that everything else then follows if you can draw a straight line from the end of one toe to the other, your dogz's straight! & If the nose shine has a 1px upside down & back-to-front capital L too, the head's good. I used my black & white dogz to try and give a decent example of light and dark extremes haha
you're very close with Dickory! his alignment's great, it's just that indicative nose shine you're after now. I echo what Tali's already said about turning Jellyroll a smidge

Thanks, Bambi Vision. My question now is... which is more important, aligned legs or an aligned face? Because I can't seem to get both at the same time. ^^; If I get a perfect face placement, the legs aren't aligned right. And if I get the legs aligned right, like in these pictures, their faces are off. These dogz are going to be the death of me, lol. I'll keep working at it and hope to get both, since that's obviously the ideal. I did get a slightly better head placement with Dickory last night, but it's still not perfect.

Some judges place head alignment above feet, while others are the opposite. Myself, I tend to judge feet alignment over head. Are you auto saving photos and using the space bar to take pics? When posing my dogz, I smash the crap out of my space bar as fast as I can. Going at light speed I manage to catch that perfect head alignment. There's usually only one, sometimes two, usable photos. You're doing very well!

Yeah, I've been auto saving them. I think where I'm having trouble is finding that perfect sweet spot where both their legs and their heads are aligned correctly. There's such a tiny margin of error! In fact... while working at it again tonight, I was seriously about a minute away from just throwing in the towel and giving up on Dogz completely... and then I captured this pose of Jellyroll's! It was enough to make me stop and think, "Hey! Maybe it ISN'T impossible!" What do you guys think? Is this a show-worthy pose? (My other dalis... still working on them, lol.) eta: And before I forget to mention, a huge thank you to all of you who have commented! Your advice has been very helpful and I appreciate the time you've taken to help a showing newbie (well, for Dogz anyway) like me out.

Good, but he is a little off leg alignment wise (he's turned a little bit too much towards the camera) and his head is a little off too, but it should be easy to get good head alignment when the legs are aligned good too. He could place in shows although I'd try to get a better pose of him. Its much improved from the poses in your first post, you're getting the hang of it! Almost there!
