All right so, you may remember that when I first became a part of the petz community, I only have P5 and 10-15 petz within it (all non-inbred of course... lol I was such a prude).
Anyway, since then I have P4, I hardly even go in P5, and have a whopping total of 47 dogz/catz in P4 and 18 in P5 - so 65 petz altogether. And I don't like it.
I've noticed I don't play with my new additions nearly as much as I used to, and I'm far less attached to my newbies when compared to my oldies.
But - and here's the thing - I want to do more than just play petz. I have a lot of fun breeding and want to be able to breed adorable mixies, but in order to do so you kind of need a large variety of petz. I don't want to stick them in a folder except when I need their genes... that's just horrible. -_-
I already use PA profiles (I have one for dogz and one for catz) but it's not enough. :x
tl;dr: How do you keep the balance between "I just want a small amount of pets I love" and "Dude, breeding is lots of fun"?

I have 12 in game petz. My "gameplay" petz:) I keep the other PkC pets in a folder and my breeding line in a folder. Sometimes when I need to change things up I swap out folders, but my gameplay pets are my signature models, my crew site babies, and my playgroup petz. I get way more satisfaction out of the game play that way:)

I have a stock of 25 petz in P4 (counting my ferrets) and a large amount of horses in P5, and in reality I spend 90% of my time in P4 atm. I'm considering returning some of my petz since I just don't know if I have time for them all. My horses are easier to take care of but they don't get as much playtime as my kitters and dogs do. Idk, I think as long as you have a few good petz to breed than breeding is always fun! Plus if the community knows your individual petz and gets attached to them and then looks forward to the litters you have to offer. xD

I have this problem to Rina I have way to many pets especially in Great danes and Labs. I try to play with them everyday but its hard work I'm also thinking of returning a few I don't play with or adopting out a few That I bred. So I shall be stalking this thread to see what others think cause I feel the same way :[

It would be a lot easier to put my gorgeous bred petz in a folder and just play with the "special" ones, but that's not particularly fair to their breeders, is it? I don't know how many times I've seen the rule "Don't adopt just to stick in a folder." And I agree with that.
Thanks for the help, guys! x3 I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Moocow, most of the pets I get attached to are hexies or are very low-gen (like, we're talking 1st or 2nd generation). So breeding them is pointless, and I don't like to breed my hexies anyway. xD Weird stuff sometimes happens.

I had this problem, so I downsized. I still have a lot of petz (40-ish) but they're hexies and such. Some of them I don't play with that often but I still appreciate and love the aesthetic look of and so I keep them around and rotate them in sometimes.

Yeah, the hexies will not pass down their traits to the babies anyways, they just come out as normal looking dogz or catz, depending on the breed file you have in when they breed.
I tend to get very attached to all my petz, and place sentimental value on them, so it's very hard for me to give up any of them. Even if I can't possibly play with them all on a regular basis. Lol.

I don't know how you people do it! I can't even handle two! And I'm giving up one of them because I feel like he doesn't get enough attention, lol! I'm such a wimp You know what, I've never really thought about it before, but besides the fact I'm not into breeding or hexing petz, I think they main reason I keep my petz numbers so low is because I pick favorites. And then I don't want to play with any of the others. That's pretty much the way it's always been for me, and why I haven't had more than two petz in about 10 years!

I have a similar problem. Not much with breeding but in that after a long time of playing with just a couple of petz I joined the community and see lots of what are to me, new variations with all the different mixies out there that I want to pick out and adopt my favs but at the same time I know my game is getting to the point that if I adopt many more I'll have to change the way I play. I'm trying to be more choosy with my adoptions and I might MPA a couple to keep the numbers down.
Breeding projects however I view slightly differently. For instance I'm currently trying for a certain dachshund/poodle mix and I started out with adoption centre pets in a separate profile and I'm not sentimental over them. Any lovelies will get picked out and put into my main crew or MPA'd but I view it as a project nothing more. The exception is when my crew petz breed of course; like my recent Sunhill Persian litter. I don't want to add too many to my crew so I limited myself to one kitten for myself and MPA the rest but I wish I could keep them all. I used to feel a bit weird about the left overs just sitting there or being deleted which is why I rarely bred petz before I joined the community but now I know I can MPA the remainder it feels less wasteful. IYKWIM
Probably best to see it as two games. You Petz crew to play and fuss over and a breeding crew with adoptions that don't mention not foldering in the rules.

I know what you mean, when I used to play, I'd sometimes go a bit crazy and adopt every pet I liked from the AAP forum, but then there would always come a point when it's impossible to be equally affectionate to each of them.
The most I ever had was only about 10, but it felt like there was no room for more, and that if any of them had litters, I'd have to adopt them out. I ended up making two profiles using PetzA. One was for the ones I was training/breeding at that time, and the other was for the rest. Every day I'd log into the profile with all the other pets in and feed them etc. all together, then I'd open the main profile and have it running most of the day while I was at my desk, so I could spend time with my favourites.
But like you said, it seems unfair to pick favourites, especially when your pets are from somebody else. It's hard to get around that problem.
So now, since I've had to start over again anyway (I have a new laptop, and my old files are all gone), I'm going to pick the petz I keep very carefully, and if they have litters, I'll probably adopt them out.
It is fun every now and then to just try and breed some cool pets, so sometimes I make a new profile just to mess about, but I end up deleting it when I get bored anyway. If any particularly nice pets come out of it I'll either save them, adopt them out, or raise them.

Probably best to see it as two games. You Petz crew to play and fuss over and a breeding crew with adoptions that don't mention not foldering in the rules. I think that's a great way to think of it! If you can emotionally separate yourself from the breeding pez, then maybe you wouldn't feel so bad.

I have a lot of petz, but I can honestly say I don't have too much of a problem keeping all of them special. I don't really have a particular set of petz that are my particularly loved petz because I'm a sap and get attached to all of them. Some more than others, obviously, but you know.
I keep most of my petz separated into folders by main breed, but keep the random mixies in a folder together since there's not a lot of them. (Mind you, I use my folders like profiles. For some reason, I couldn't get profiles to work when I redownloaded PetzA, and didn't care to bother fixing it so this is my solution.) I randomly pick which group I want to play with (literally randomly... I use a random number generator, haha). I then randomly bring out groups of five petz to play with (and any petz begging at the door) and we play until they run back inside. I then pick a random pet to replace them. This gives all of them relatively equal playtime and I don't play favorites. It's great when my more favored ones are out, but it's okay when they're not, too.

That's exactly what I do ^
I separate the Breeds by group and try to play with one group like RBs at one time then Bullies at another.

I pick favorites too, but like... EVERYONE is my favorite. xD I love them each in their own ways, and I find it very hard to choose. ^^;

tl;dr: How do you keep the balance between "I just want a small amount of pets I love" and "Dude, breeding is lots of fun"? This answer will not help, sorry. But... I've been playing Petz since '98, and I have absolutely no clue how this is possible. I just go nuts. It's too much fun. I keep all of my Petz backed up, I'm a piggy.
