I'm just getting back into the game and would love to start breeding projects. 1. I would like to get to 8 generations and up but I have no idea how to do that. Do I just have 1 pairing and keep breeding, or do I have multiple pairings and then breed their puppies/kittens together once they grow? 2. I've also heard about mutations when breeding as well. Are they just with colors or can they be anything like body shapes/types, ect? 3. Also how do I get different eye colors in Petz? or is that result of generation breeding or mutations? 4. Anything else I would appreciate too

About your first question, it depends. A lot of people don't want inbred petz so it seems like there's a fair bit of planning involved, especially in situations where you can't/won't breed your pets with 1st generation AC pets (like if you're trying to breed specific mutations together). Some people seem to plan their pairings well in advance. I'm not sure what results you're looking for, if any, so it's hard to give you more specific advice and resources.
EDIT: I could be wrong but I don't think body shape is subject to mutations, I think it's based only on the parents' genes and maybe what OWs you have in your game for those breeds.

I just want to breed to Gen 8 and see what comes out. But I would like to do some challenges where you have so many pairings and then breed them until you have so many babies for each and so forth, but I don't know how to exact do that. I'm very confused lol

For 2nd gen pets, you need 2 parents... For 3rd gen, you need 4 grandparents... For 4th gen, you need 8 great grandparents...
So to work out how many pets you need to reach a certain generation, start doubling the number for every generation...
For one non-inbred 8th gen pet you need 128 pets (128 1st gen starters, to get 64 in the 2nd gen, 32 in the 3rd gen, 16 in the 4th gen, 8 in the 5th gen, 4 in the 6th gen, 2 in the 7th gen, and 1 in the 8th gen!
It's entirely up to you how you decide to breed. If you want to do non-inbred 8th gen pets, it's a LOT of work and a lot of starting pets! But you could also try adopting from other people so you aren't doing all the work yourself, or you can not worry so much about inbreeding! It's all just for fun and there are no rules about how you play the game.

silverfish so are you saying for the 1st gen I have 128 pairs and then breed them until I have 64 babies to choose from, then breed those babies and then get 32 babies from that and breed again to get 16 babies and breed those down to get 8 babies and breed those down to 4 and then 2 and 1 for the 8th. Is that right? I just want to be clear, since I'm not really good with math wise, or I'm hoping I got it close?

Yes that's right but not 128 pairs. Just 128 pets that you'd then pair up and breed. I think that once you get started it'll become obvious... Don't overthink it - just get started and it'll all make sense

It's a huge ordeal to make it non-inbred, as I've learned. xD My thread here shows the giant family tree from when I tried doing that with Pit Bulls. Or, if you want, you could simply click here and it will load a VERY LARGE IMAGE that you can zoom in and look at. I think if you download it and open it in your own image viewer, or paint program, you can choose how far to zoom. (Seems there's only two options in the browser...all the way out, and pretty close in) But the way it works, if you wanted to kind of go by it, or even erase my Dogz and put in your own to help yourself remember, is something like this. Each row is a generation. Very top row across are 1st gen Dogz. Every time I bred them, I bred them a few times to find a puppy I liked, then I would choose ONE puppy for the family tree/breeding process (or it gets messy) and would breed it to the chosen one of the next gen. I kept doing this and they would connect the further down the generations they bred. Until, all the way at the very end...there's the 8th gen baby!! It took A LOT OF DOGZ for me to get that far, and it was very confusing. But I do find if you sort them as you breed them, by generations, and make notes or images like this to remember who's related to who, or who will breed to who...it helps. And another thing if you're going for purebreds...if you're in the habit of Trimming Petz files through PetzA (very important to do if you're sending people large pet files, because sometimes they won't work.) like I am...DON'T DO IT for the Petz in this project, or else it'll confuse LNZPro and any of your Petz will be seen as a mixed breed, even if it isn't. I hope I was able to help. xD I suck at math too and this project was such a headache, I'm not in any hurry to do it again (especially since I keep all the rejects as well as the successes...sighh.) but it was a pretty neat challenge! Do share with us if you decide to go for it, and maybe we can even help you along as you go. ^^

To add onto the other replies... if you're going for non-inbred, what I started doing with my projects is to give all the petz from a certain family a name starting with the same letter, so I could tell at a glance who was related to who. So for example, I'd know just by looking that I could breed Alice and Bob and keep their children inbred-free, but Alice and Adam were related, so I wouldn't breed them. If you're not concerned with inbreeding, though, it doesn't really matter lol. There's some breeding charts on Moonflower that you might find useful... you can find them on moonflowerpetz.neocities.org/moonflower.html when you click on "downloads" and then "breeding sheets"
