I don't know how many people play this game but it is basically a sequel to the original petz games so hopefully I can post this here.
I have a disc version and I want to get it working on windows 10. I tried windows 98 virtual machine using virtual box but it didn't work as even after i finally managed to install it onto the virtual machine it said i didn't have 256 colours which i tried to install but it wouldn't work. The virtual operating system then corrupted so i stopped using it. It kept crashing and virtual box isn't good for windows 98 anyway.
I'm not too sure otherwise how to get it running, i might be able to get it running on windows xp emulator with windows 98 mode compatiability mode on top. But I don't want to go through the effort if it doesn't work. Im scared also windows xp may take up a lot of space on my pc? Not that my pc is bad either but I may not want to permanently have windows xp on my pc.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure there's an answer out there for this but I couldn't find one when I needed one either - all I can say is that I'm 99% sure there is no way to run it on W10 without using a virtual machine of some kind so you're going in the right direction. If all else fails, I believe the oddballz were turned into breedz by someone talented so you could always integrate those into your Petz game! I know it wouldn't be the same without the awesome animations and items though.

This has my interest peaked. I also have Oddballz, but haven't yet installed in on Windows 10. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow, and see if I can make it happen. The last system I had it working on was XP... so... I'll post here in the next day or so, and let you know if I made magic.

Ahh the video says she used a custom dos box installation hmm ;p It's annoying how as windows systems upgrade it becomes harder to play petz games :/ Especially older ones. I have played with the oddballz in petz and a few of them in babyz which is fun too, I think those customs were hosted and possibly made by carolyn creations probably one of my favourite petz sites out of the ones which are still out there :0 Sue If you do have any success I would be interested to see X3

Does that make me mean?

Well the original oddballz felt a bit cruel at times lol I can see why they didn't bring same features to petz At least they would reform afterwards being made of ballz they can come back together easily if they did come apart ^^ So they need not suffer. Honker has a cute nose.

Well, so far, no luck. I put the game on my hard drive piece-by-piece, in a directory named "Games" inside my user directory. I put all the according files into the system and windows directories. I made the setup.exe file compatible for Windows XP and 256 color, then ran the XP patch, and restarted my computer.
It would not allow me to run the .exe file, which didn't totally surprise me. Then, I also tried to run it using a MS DOS command window, and I got the error that it was not a 64 bit program, and could not run. *sigh* I really thought I was onto something.. but nope.
I'm not giving up though. I believe the .exe installer is the issue, of course, and I'm hoping to find a way around it. According to my research, I think it should be possible...

Maybe it would work with a 32-bit OS?

^No clue whatsoever. I just thought since I saw the options for running in compatibility mode, or dos, I might get lucky. Tried and failed so many times, that my brain hurts. I got so nostalgic for it, I opened up the ancient Dell with XP thats covered in dust and installed it on that for *ahem* my granddaughter. Anyway, she was absolutely smitten with the game. I intend to keep trying for Windows 10, however my hope for success today is running on low.

Awww, how sad. I too wish I could play the original OddBallz game on my Windows 8, but I really wish I could run Petz II also. Perhaps if we tried asking the lady who made that video how exactly she set it up so she could run Oddballz using Dosbox, I've set up Dosbox before and run Dos-games such as WOLF and LION but it puzzles me trying to run a game a bit newer :/ good luck

Yea i'm interested in how that Lady got it working XP
I'm thinking of installing windows 3.1 onto dosbox if I can. My oddballz cd case says windows 3.1 enhanced mode will work. Originally I was going to try windows 95 on dosbox but that seems harder to set up so i'm not sure.

A while back I set up the game on a virtual machine using VMware Player (looks like it's been renamed to Workstation Player but it's still free for personal use) and an old copy of Win 98SE. It's pretty straight forward to set up although obviously if it worked natively that would be better but if you just want to mess around with the game for a bit it works.

I think the compatibility with the old petz games (Dogz, Catz, Oddballz) is caused not exactly by which Windows version (98, XP, 7) but by how many bits it is. The old games are 16 bit so they run on 16 and 32 bit computers only, 64 bit they stop working. The only way around this is a virtual machine or a harddrive partition. I own a 32 bit Windows 7 for this reason, it runs my old Catz but it also has enough power for the Sims 2.

First of all, Oddballz is not a sequel to the Petz games but rather a spin-off from it. Also, never use Win98 under VirtualBox.
Also, I'm unsure if Virtual PC 2007 would work under 10, where you can install Win98 on that no bother and then the game.
