When trying to use the PetzA2.2.5 installer on Windows 95, I receive the following errors (clicking 'ok' on the first causes the second to appear): My VM has both Petz 2 and Petz 3 installed on it, both working with no issues.
The other installers available on Sherlock Software's website also do not work.

Have you tried downloading the alternative Petz .exes on the PetzA site? Or maybe trying a different version? It seems like the one thing added in 2.2.5 is a resolution change for P5, so if you're not playing P5, it shouldn't matter. I don't know if this applies to Windows 95, but have you tried running as admin and the works? Depending on which version of Petz you're trying to play, you might not need a VM at all. My VM has XP installed and I've only used it for P1 and 2 (just out of curiosity) because 3-5 run ok for me on Windows 10

I tried using various versions of PetzA, but none of them ended up working. I eventually threw in the towel and decided to just go without (I ended up not needing it anyway, haha).
My Win95 VM has Petz 2 and 3 on it, but I know they can be run on my host computer, I just installed them on a VM for fun.
Thank you for the advice! I might try running as admin just to see if it works.
