Brand new to the PC

Hello all! If anything looks off about the formatting of this post, I assume it's because I'm on mobile, I notice there aren't all the text formatting options that appear on desktop.

I'll be going by the name Lieka here, and I use she/her! I'm 25 currently, and my first Petz game was Dogz 3 back when I was probably around 6 or 7. I distinctly remember getting it in a box set along with three other "girl games" that also included Barbie Magic Hair Styler. I have always had a fascination with animals, so naturally Petz was what really hooked me out of all the games in that set. I went on to absolutely adore both Catz and Dogz 4, and tried playing Catz 5 as well, but found the new mechanics a bit frustrating and to this day I still stick to playing 4.

So, despite having played the games for a long time, I never actually delved into the Petz Community online. I wasn't allowed internet access until I was a preteen, and at that point I very rarely ever touched my "kid games" anymore because I was too cool for it. It wasn't until I was about 17 when I found my old games again and discovered the joys of hexed breedz/toys/clothes and petz showing!

I didn't have interest in showing back at that time, as I only knew about PKC and never registered because it seemed soooo high-stake and competitive it intimidated me. And now, maybe a week ago, for the first time I discovered the RKC forum and realized there are these smaller showing communities too! I was so happy to see this, and I am now putting in work to learn the ropes.

I'm currently working on getting a posed pic of each of my base game purebred (& non-inbred, very important to me) petz, though I only plan on showing a few, as mixes are so much more interesting. To keep this all organized, I'm also thinking about putting together my own site, but talk about intimidating!!

If it's okay, I would like to check a few questions I have been pondering over before I go on ahead and start participating in things.

- I want to avoid any faux pas in debuting in the forum shows. Rest assured, I have been studying the pose guides like crazy and will be setting high standards for myself. I also know I will need to set myself an abbreviation to use for my show names, and I did check the one I want to use & it's available so I should be set there. But besides this, what other steps should I take before I'm ready to show here? Should I set up a showroom with the petz info & starting at 0 points before I show any pet?
- What is the attitude toward showing petz that fully or partially breedz obtained from others' petz websites? So far, trying to kinda read the room, I'm leaning toward: PKC breedz probably okay, less clear with non-PKC breedz (maybe best to check with the creator in these cases)? The good news is I have a big spreadsheet where I have all the info about every downloaded item I have added to my game, so I know exactly where everything comes from and should be able to follow the general consensus regarding polite use of breedz no matter what.

Hmm, I think those are the only two general questions I have for now! There's one more that is specific to posing but I will pit that over in the posing help board where it belongs.

And more important than questions, uh... Let me close off this long-winded introduction! You all look like such kind and fun people, and I am blown away by the creations I've seen across this forum. My own hexing skills at the moment are at an edit-an-eyelid-color level, but I do hope I can offer the same kindness and fun to you all!

Hello and welcome! I too played as a kid but wasn't allowed to "interact with strangers online", so I never joined the Petz Community until 2017.

Forum showing is really casual-- you don't even need to open a Showroom to show petz-- its mostly just assumed that you keep track of your own points for your own records (though you don't even have to keep track of points if you don't want to-- technically no one will notice but keeping track of points is fun!). Feel free to keep track of your points how you'd like :) some people (myself included) use a spreadsheet (that is not visible to anyone but me haha).
Showrooms are super fun to keep! But they require a lot of work for me haha.

As for showing other breedfiles, no creator that I have ever heard of has a rule that disallows you to show petz from that breedfile. I think the only downside about showing a not-common breedfile is that judges who are unfamiliar with that breedfile will have a harder time judging/placing the pose.

Thank you so much! Lol, absolutely relate to the parental worries of "scary internet strangers". I'm absolutely glad to hear it's casual like that in this kind of forum. I do like the idea of making a Showroom regardless, but it's very motivational to know there aren't any strict rules about it! And the spreadsheet sounds like a great idea to keep track of entered shows and the points won from each, I hadn't thought of that as an option. 

And wow, you know it does make sense when I think about it, that people aren't so likely put out a whole breedfile without wanting people to use it at all. But it's a relief of sorts to have that confirmed. I did a bit of breeding & taking pics with less petzy breedz today and man it feels like a shot in the dark figuring out where the dogs are aligned, I can only begin to imagine how hard judging these is! I think mixing Ubisoft petz with said breeds would make things way easier. And it's a fun experiment too

This is the cat I've been most excited about while breeding so far, he's just a Tabby/Russian Blue mix but I think he looks really really cute:
 
My breeding projects are going to get much more interesting soon though!
Besides him, I have a few of my purebred mutated cats that I may show as they're aesthetically pleasing to me and I've gotten what I think are good/good-ish poses out of them.

Aaaand dogs are a nightmare to pose it seems.  I'm having the most luck with Dalis and Poodles, but even then it takes a looooong time.

Thank you!! I love that there's a lot of variety when branching out into the non-pose shows, and I love the positivity I have seen across the board   Aaand it's admittedly very encouraging to see that there are frequently EBW shows. I feel confident knowing that even if there's work to do when I start out I won't see myself stuck at 0 points forever and feeling embarrassed. (Though being a perfectionist and even worse a Virgo, I still plan on taking the long hours it takes to work with a stubborn dog and getting that BIS-worthy pose as often as I possibly can, lol!)
