I'm really enjoying this, it's so neat to see multiple generations. I especially love the pups with the "mane" heads (like Alan). xD

Hello again
Just here with a quick update. The breeding of the first 16 dogs is slowly coming to an end. I have 4th gens! They were born yesterday.
I'm not completely sure about them, but during my absence I've done some quick test breedings and it turns out that the chance of the kind of outcome that I want in 5th gen is pretty high, so might as well go with what I have here.
Tune in for the end of the first chapter!

Hey, it's me again
These two have grown up and were bred today. They didn't turn out the best, neither in the coat/body gene, nor personality departments, but I'm still curious about what their pups are gonna be like.
I wanted to try breeding the 3rd gen pairs again and... got pups looking like what I wanted my Shollies to look like!!! I'm so excited!

Oh sweet! Looking forward to seeing what the repeat breeding pups look like as adults! Me too! they're getting weaned tomorrow, so expect spam . I didn't think I could get this far with only 16 dogs! I'm also giving a chance to the first pair I bred, there seems to be a one-generation lag going on with traits sometimes...

Sharing more pictures of the pack because I cannot wait
These are Charlotte and Cecilia,
And this is Casper.
They all look like they're plotting something 24/7 and are very hyper.

Today's news (good and meh):
I'll start with the meh. Cassie had her 5th gen pups yesterday and as expected from the looks of the parents, the puppies are all over the place, which proves that the more strictly you select and the more times you breed, the faster you get established results.
I really like the last one though, I called her Dixie. She looks almost perfect, *shakes fist* damn you floppy ears!
As for the good news, the 4th gen pups from the second breeding came out looking spectacularly and were weaned yesterday. (Quick note, Cecilia was changed to Chloe because I liked that name better.)
So, without further ado, I present to you all... the first true shollies
And here's a look at their personalities and genes:
I'm really happy with how established he is. The coat colors are pretty solid and the body parts + SCP are all GSD. He has Confidence 100, high liveliness and playfulness (it really shows), unfortunately criminally low acrobaticness - his parents were both mid, so idk what happened there, and intelligence 28 which is welcome considering most of the gene pool lagging in that regard. He loves the frisbee but hasn't managed to catch one yet. I'll train him more and see if he can catch up.
Tricks are a major WIP, both pups are kinda slow maturing it seems like, because they still keep running around and jump up at the treat trying to hang onto it, so working with them is hard.
And here's our girl, a lot less established but going in the right direction. Lower intelligence but higher acrobaticness - catches the frisbee with ease. Independence is very low (I don't really care, I don't select for any particular range), so she cries immediately when the hand is idle. Oh, and she carries steel eyes. Wonder if that's gonna inherit easily, tbh I like ginger.

But this is not the end, oh no! Another 16 coming soon!
Aaand after 64 dogs I may do a longhaired line (gsd head and ears, entire body of a collie, collie markings, same personality).

Status update status update attention attention
Of course I couldn't start part 2, couldn't give it a rest. I shifted some stuff around and now I'm gonna report on it. Most of it will be copy-paste from Petzcord because that's where I've been hanging out and posting pictures. Forum posts are harder, forgive me.
So, Chloe and Casper did have their puppy.
Turns out there was something I missed - the parents had the possibility of collie markings almost eliminated, and collie markings are... in addition to personality? Almost the whole point. Another thing is that Casper criminally low acrobaticness and partial markings. So I went eh, might as well breed these 3rd gens again while I raise Casper, no time wasted.
And somehow. I got this guy.
Connor's pretty great. Acrobaticness 60, intelligence 42 and a pretty chocolate coat with full markings. A bit stubborn, but he's already learned quite a few tricks, tried to pose and caught a frisbee from like the other side of the game window. His favorite thing to do is rolling in the grass and violently swiping hermit crabs off-screen. Right now he's age 15. I wonder what he's gonna be capable of when he grows up.
In other news, I did some parallel breeding via PetzA and concluded that I'm going to be switching to the Kizmet gsd OW. As much as I like the Ubi one, I got a bit frustrated with their legs and bodies becoming wack upon reaching full size. I thought this overwrite being on a Dane base meant that the dog would act different, but they really don't. They act the same and pose the same + they have better legs and ears. They have a softer look to them too, which works to my advantage. Just look at this awesome 6th gen! (Her name is Elaine and she has the right SCP + personality values also.)

Connor and Elaine look fantastic, congratulations on reaching this point in your breeding! GSDs look so nice with the collie markings.
For personality values, I've been working under the assumption that it's kind of like genetics in that as well as the values a pet has (the ones which are visible with GoalDescriptor) there is also another set of values that they carry, and therefore the offspring can inherit personality values from either. It's possibly more complicated that that, too, as I've seen values come up somewhere in the middle, so I wonder whether it's a case of either inheriting as is, or as an average of two combined values. It's not something I've done enough specific testing of to know, though. Just thought it might be interesting for you!
If you do breed from Caspar you'll probably find that the markings don't come out so partial when using the OW; that's just something that happens with the original file, unfortunately.
You can select for/reinforce the collie markings in future generations, at least! This is where GenePoolz is super useful.

Exciting news!
So Connor grew up, was paired up with Chloe and they liked each other. Hence these nuggets:
I don't know if I'm gonna settle on him, but this 5th gen boy looks promising. He belongs to the first litter from this pair AND he's a boy, I was lucky. (Boy shollies are weirdly rare).
(This is a day 2 photo.)
(And this is a day 3 photo.)
I called the favorite Drift. I stayed up late to see him open his eyes.
There's apparently a way to to generate a .pet file for a newborn without making it grow up - change its name and just take the file with the name out of the Adopted Petz folder. If you keep the backup file in, your game will report data corruption on restart. You can then run that .pet file through GenePoolz and GoalDescriptorAnalyzer and the values you get are final (I checked).
Drift has the gsd SCP, Confidence 66, Acrobaticness 91 and Intelligence 19. Overall, very good. He still carries collie ears, legs and personality, which bugs me, but I'm sure I can get less of them in the next generation. Collie feet I don't mind, they just mean pink pawpads.
