Hi everyone!
I'm Emil, a.k.a. neurohound. I'm 20 years old (soon to be 21) and I live in Poland.
I used to see a lot of Petz graphics around the web when I was younger and I always wondered what game this was / where to get it, because it seemed super cool.
I acquired a boxed copy of Dogz 5 very recently, after watching a video about Petz history and then going on a deep dive through different websites.
Mainly here to selectively breed dogs (at this moment it's specifically shollies - german shepherd and rough collie mixes), train frisbee and tricks. Not getting into showing yet, because I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the rules, formalities, techniques and required mods.
No website yet. I reaaaally want one though.
Anyway, I hope you're all having a great day!

Hello and welcome!
You should check out frisbee and trick showing if you are interested in that-- I can answer any questions you may have about them :D
to add an image, you need to use the tags and type the image url inside them-- here's an example using the logo at the top of RKC:

Welcome!
Hope you enjoy being part of the petz community - love the idea of Shollies, what mix of traits are you aiming to select for? I really like the Petz 5 GSD (well, the fixed files for it anyway) so it's great to see someone else taking an interest in them.
If you do decide you want to get into pose showing, there's some useful info/guides in the Posing Help & Advice section of the forum, and you can always ask for help! There's definitely a bit of a learning curve with showing and it's quite competitive but at the same time it's great fun. The activity based shows like frisbee/trick seem to be really popular now too.

Hi and thank you!
I actually have a pretty solid idea in mind. I'm using the default petz 5 gsd and the Abnormality rough collie v1 breedfile because it has a normal tail. (Acquired from here: petzkennelclub.co.uk/breeds/index.php/topic,1074.0.html)
I'm looking for:
- A gsd body (may be slightly longer or more fluffy); I'm thinking whether or not a collie head would be ok,
- Pointy ears are a MUST,
- Possibly a thick collie tail, for extra sass,
- Sable collie markings, at this time only the sand and chocolate variety seen in the screenshot above. With or without white head markings,
- Gsd personality, with a heavy emphasis on liveliness, intelligence and acrobaticness on the higher side.
Already bred two pairs, puppies are gonna be born the day after tomorrow. Wish me luck - from what I've seen, a clear-cut 'markings of one breed, body of another' type of mix isn't all that common.
I'll check out how showing works, once I get to a point when I'm satisfied with how the dogs look and behave.

Ooh that sounds really interesting! I love that you're taking into account the personality values when selective breeding, too.
That Abno collie file is really nice, still fairly petzy instead of super-realistic so should mix nicely with the GSD. One thing I've noticed is that other breed heads can look really weird on the GSD body, kind of like they've got no necks, but that's just the original breeds, hexed files may be more compatible in that sense, I don't know. You're right that breeding is unlikely to give you the exact results you want straight away, it usually takes a lot of breedings/generations to get things breeding true without any unwanted traits in there. It's definitely a challenge!
If you haven't already found it, GenePoolz (for checking petz genetics) can be downloaded here and it's so useful, I don't know how we all managed without it before. You can see what genetics your dog carries and can potentially pass on!
There's also a useful table for a method for selective breeding on Cargo here and a huge amount of extremely useful info about how breeding works on CRUSHING here that'll tell you everything you need to know.
I hope your first pups turn out promising!

Yea I basically gave myself a head start, bc I minimized low values in these traits by picking out adoption center dogs that behaved a certain way. Well, that's for acrobaticness and liveliness anyway - there's no real way to see if a dog is intelligent before it has a .pet file (I just downloaded a tool for checking trait values) and before you can train it.
(Though I must admit, choosing adoption center dogs based on three variables - different genders, coat color and personality takes a bit of time... But hey, I'm going for a slow-paced and careful gameplay anyway )
The gsd head would be a bit nicer in terms of consistency, but I'm accepting the possibility of ending up with some collie heads in early generations. So if a pup has the right body and coat and everything, but the head is wrong, I might still pick that one and then try to breed it out.
I do have GenePoolz, I'm excited for using it on 2nd-gens, because on 1st-gens everything is very obvious.
I also do realize it takes quite a few generations to get the effects you want. I actually got inspired to start selectively breeding after reading about this dalmatian breeding project - gingerade.wixsite.com/brewery/dalmatians , so I knew this was going to be a larger-scale thing than just 4 or 8 dogs. Also also, thank you for the links!

That's a smart move to look for certain behaviour traits in the Adoption Centre!
If it's just one coat colour variation you're looking to adopt, you can also use Pet Workshop's 'collapse all variations' function (you'll have to reload the breedfile until the variation you want is the one displayed, but once you collapse variations that'll be the only one that will come out at the AC). Could save a bit of time, unless you want to do everything as naturally as possible? I take it you're not gender switching either? That's something you can do easily with PetzA if you wanted to.
If you're interested in sharing, you should create a topic about your breeding project! I love reading about people's breeding goals and seeing how they progress.

Yes, I'm doing everything as naturally as possible I think it's mainly for the challenge and so that I value my outcomes more.
I was thinking about creating a topic. Would love to share my progress and post cool photos.
