My name is Vesper and I've played Petz 3 Catz/Dogz as a child on a hand-me-down Windows 98 Gateway computer. I played that game soooo much. I remember adopting the Chihuahua a lot because it was like my real life Chihuahua at the time named Sugar. As years gone by I played the game on and off. The CDs got stored for a long time.
Decades later, about 3 weeks ago, I had the urge to play again after seeing a Twitter post with a screenshot of a Catz from Petz. The memories flooded back HARD. I found out I could download Petz 5 from oldgamesdownload. I put that sucker on my PC and... Was slightly disappointed from the changes. I think the new scenes were nice but there was no toy room!
After some Googling I found Petz 4 with all the catz, dogz, and PetzA all together. I discovered the Petz fandom wasn't as small as I thought and still thriving. This niche has an active and creative community, with so much free fan-made content for people to add to their Petz game. I went absolutely nuts and downloaded soooo many things. Clothes, Toyz, Scenes, Breedz.
Petz renewed a part of myself that has been missing for a while. It's like a fire has been relit. There's so many videogames out there but they don't always feel 100% enjoyable. Petz is simple but also complex where it matters. It still has surprises for you to discover and a community who continues to add more even two decades later.
Thank you for still being here and thank you to all creators, old and new, who put their time into new content. Thank you to the archivers for documenting and retaining content. It's all amazing and so refreshing to a community like this one thriving.
