Are they always this hard to pose? I've been trying for an hour and this is the best I've gotten so far.... Are they any good? I can't tell. I feel like the head is too low in dane for one thing. The tail on the dali pose... he just refuses to curl it. I'm just not sure about these poses. is it just because I'm not used to sheepie poses? This is my first EVER sheepie I'm trying to prep for show. Edit: better tail curl.... I think?

Most judges prefer a high head, but the profile/outline in dane pose looks nice! I generally like sheepies with the back toes level or offset by one pixel (if you have a look in the Dogz Posing & Judging Guide topic you can see some examples of sheepie alignment). The heart shaped nose in dali pose is nice; one other thing to look for is eyes as close to being level as possible, but depending on the individual dog's genetics it may not be possible to get fully level eyes. The tail is a labrador tail, it won't really curl (again look at the lab examples in the post I linked, you'll see the tails look the same).
The second dali pose you posted is better then the first one, in my opinion - better alignment and better tail (the improvement in the tail is because you took this pic closer to the highest breathing point of the pose; this is where the dog stands tallest/proudest and where the curl of the tail is most pronounced).
It can be really hard figuring out what a dog that's a mix of different breed parts is capable of in pose. My one suggestion would be to see if you can get the back toes level or one pixel off level and see how the dali pose looks in that position. I usually check the back feet for alignment as soon as I've dropped the dog; if it's off I pick it back up straight away and drop it into position again, and only start taking pics if the alignment looks correct. It gets easier the more practice you have; I'm better with some breeds than others.
Hope some of this is helpful for you!

Thanks, zan ! I appreciate that a lot. I did spend some time with the posing guide and between it and your advice I think I understand better what to look for in sheepies now. Which will also help me with judging them better, too. They're sweet and fun petz and I look forward to working with Thunder here more. I welcome any feedback anyone else has to offer, too!
