Hey there! I'm new here, even though I lurked for awhile way back when. I was hoping to make a Calico/Alley Cat selective breed and I was wondering if anyone had any hints or tips, since it's been years since I've attempted to do something like this.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I think first and foremost, you need to have in mind exactly what traits you want before you even start. Kinky tail or smooth? What markings? Etc. Then breed AC and Cali pairs together until you get exactly those traits. Then breed those pairs' offspring together until they produce the traits you want. So on and so forth. The traits should start to solidify about 6 generations in, though it's harder if you let any slip through with traits you don't want.
Those are the basics as I understand them, and the method I use, though others might be able to add more that's helpful. And of course, inbreeding can speed things up if you don't personally have any problem with it. Most out there are inbred anyway, after all.

Hey there! So I'm still working on this and I've hit a bit of a snag. My pairs LOVE to throw offspring that look like a purebred Alley Cat. I'm working on Generation 6, and I was wondering if anyone else had tried this pairing and had the same issue?

That's so weird - I'm working on a line that was throwing a lot of "recessive genes," if you will, in the final stages, so I'm having to weed those out, so maybe it's something similar? In which case, to my knowledge, you basically just have to keep going until you get the ones you want and breed them together until they "breed true" with only the traits you want. This is also the point I gave up on trying to keep the line inbreeding-free as a challenge; far too much challenge for me personally, I realized!
However, I'm definitely not an expert on this. Someone with more knowledge of petz genetics might be able to chime in with a more detailed explanation of the problem and how to fix it!
