Hey guys!
So recently, I decided to buy all the Petz versions as a birthday present.
I excitedly decided to install Petz II onto my computer when it arrived earlier yesterday morning. Now I understand- common sense is, that a game made in '97 will likely be unplayable on a machine made in the past couple years (running Windows 8). But I do have basic knowledge of program compatibility options, so I thought it would be a piece of cake.
I've spent hours trying to get this game to work.
I tried installing it in different places (specifically my C: Drive in a folder named 'Petz 2', and in Program Files (x86)), and running it under all different compatibility settings. I've gotten a few errors...
1st Error: Running the program normally without messing with program compatibility, or running with 'Windows XP (SP2)' compatibility will allow Petz II to run as normal. Clicking on 'Choose a Pet' will cause the game to freeze and crash. Choosing to adopt a pet that automatically comes out gives me the adoption certificate as usual, and then directs me to the playpen. Everything works fine until selecting 'Pick a Pet', where it crashes again.
2nd Error: Running the program with compatibility set to 'Windows 95' will cause an error pop-up when trying to launch the program stating that the .exe needs to be renamed to 'Petz II.exe' to run. Even after doing this and trying different ways of writing it, it never works. This will always come up regardless of the .exe's name.
I tried installing PetzA to see if that would fix anything, but nothing has been resolved. If anyone has any help to offer, it would be insanely appreciated. Is it time to give up hope? Many thanks in advance!
