So I've never shown a pet before, and I'm trying to learn. I'm currently working with one of my Daschund mixies. He's fairly photogenic, but gets scared by the camera a lot. Is it effective to spray him with the spray bottle when he does this? Does it mess with him too much for him to focus?

As far as I know all it does is raise their neglect level which will mean he acts scared and sad even more.

The best you can do is be patient. Once he gets used to the camera (some take longer than others) he will pose for you more and be scared less. DO reward him with petting every time he DOES pose because that will train him to react that way more often (if the game works how I think it does.)
If you spray him, it will just freak him out more and you'll spend more time chasing him around & trying to calm him down than actually getting anywhere with aligning him and posing.
Edit: Also, Dachshunds are one of the worst breeds to try to pose when you're just starting out since their personality is pretty stubborn and they have such short legs that aligning them is pretty hard. They'd rather run around, bark, dig, and do tricks than pose. You might want to just give him a break and work with a Dalmatian or a Great Dane if you have one because those are more confident and pose more frequent than the others once they get used to the camera.

it's been a while since I've been over there but I'm sure I've read on PKC that petting a dog after it poses makes any poses thereafter 'skinny', so it's always good to return them to the case (after a pose and pet I mean) and then pick them out again

^ I actually only get skinny poses when I call the dog to me (double-click) and it poses very soon after, or when I call it WHILE it was posing, the next one is usually a skinny pose. However, if you pet your dog, make sure that all of its balls are normal fuzziness when you're done, sometimes balls can get stuck looking really fuzzy, like they are in mid-pet, and it may be a fault in a show pose. To fix fuzziness, just pet it again around that area and it should go back to normal. Example: this guy's chest. I was petting him and then started snapping pics after, but I didn't catch that his chest was still fuzzy until afterwards.

ah fairs as I said it's been a while. I use the double click trick quite a lot but can't remember how subtle a skinny can be in OBs 🤔
