Yeeaahh IDK what I'm doing. Thought I'd try to get some poses from Hiccup just to see if I could do it, and this is what I came up with. I read something in another thread about aligning by the back paws and being able to draw a straight line from ear to ear and a straight line on top of the nose, so that's what I aimed for. Personally I think the first one has better head alignment, but I'm not sure he's at his highest breathing point there. The second pose's head looks off, but I can't tell how. Opinions?

The first picture is surely the better of the two, the head is in good position and legs are pretty well aligned. In post 2 the head is off, like you mentioned, as it's not centered on the pet's body like the first, it's rotated. I would not place the second picture. The eyes should be even as well if you were to draw a line from bottom to bottom. =)
