Alright, I messed around with paint a little and I think what's happening is that the file your pasting into is saved as a bitmap with a limited color palette (saving it as a 256 color bitmap produced the closest results to yours for me). Try re-saving the image as a PNG and that should fix your problem (you'll need to re-copy in the images though)

I had that same problem and it's because in Windows 7 & above they changed how the program works! I was super annoyed over this. What you can do is download an older version of MS Paint - I think Windows XP version is pretty easy to find. Otherwise, what I did is just use another program. I typically use Gimp now.
Edit: It seems like Rika's solution works if you save them all as pngs before you paste them together. I think I'll still stick with gimp because I just think it's easier to deal with one file. But obviously whatever you decide is easiest you should do!

That's the default format they are saved as when I take pictures on Petz. None of the pictures I am pasting (or pasting into) are anything but png. Ummm, if you read my post, I have an old XP laptop with the old XP Paint and that's the one I'm using, not windows 7. I've tried windows 7 paint and did NOT have this issue, its weird. :/ I have photoshop, which is what I use for some of my montages, but it runs really slow, takes a Super long time to start up and puts a huge strain on my old laptop, which is why I avoid using it and prefer the easy open paint lol

^ I never had any problems with the old XP paint or vista. So since that's what happened to me, I automatically assumed it was 7 or 8, whoops! I have one other idea you could try, but you probably don't want to hear any more ideas from me since you thought the first one was so stupid! lol

I didn't think your first idea was stupid, It just was that my thread starts with the sentence "I have an old XP laptop" so I wasn't sure you had read the original post through lol

I don't know, I might be far off with this... but you saying that you always save your petz pics as .PNGs got me thinking. Maybe try saving them as .bmps and then pasting them together? I'm pretty sure I always used .bmps so maybe with XP, paint just prefers that format? I don't know. I saw you said you tried switching them around - but check if it saves as 256-color bitmap rather than a 24-bit or something... Like I said - I'm probably wrong but that's the only other idea I had.

I used to have the same issue on my Win 7 laptop. It definitely has to do with the formatting of the image, whether it is on Win 7 or an older version. The different formats have different color properties, so mixing them together can cause clashing. For me there really was no solution that I could find, so I mainly use Paint.Net instead of Paint. Paint.Net is a free program similar to Paint, but it has more features such as layering and a magic wand that Win 7 Paint doesn't have (to select things, making removing backgrounds to create transparent images super easy)! I have never encountered the same issue over there. I'll experiment tonight, and if I come up with a solution I'll post it

This happened to me as well and I've been trying to think of what I did to fix it since you've posted. I still use Windows 7 Paint and it doesn't do it anymore. I either did something and it stopped, or it fixed itself cause I have no memory of what I did.
