It's been a while since I last posted in this part of the forum for advice, but I'd like some reassurance on these poses=). You see, I adopted two beautiful dogz bred with a Shar Pei overwrite file from Catherine and I noticed while trying to pose them that their legs/ allignment works a little different from the average OB breeds. I just worked with Elliot and these are a couple of poses I could get out of him...I'm pretty sure his head allignment isn't the problem in these poses, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which one of these poses is best based on leg allignment. Pose #1 My head is telling me that he's turned too far away from the camera, even though his front ankles seem to be alligned properly...his back legs just look ''off'' to me in this one. Pose #2 I feel as though in this pose it's the other way around...he's turned too far towards the camera. In this pose his back legs seem to be alligned alright, but I'm not sure what to make of those front feet/ legs... Pose #3 I would like to think that this is the best one out of this group of poses, but I can't be sure...help?=( --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And while I'm here...how does this pose look? I haven't decided on a name for him yet, but I figured I'd try to pose him first and see how he'll do=). Is it acceptable for both of his noseshines to look like that? I've always judged head allignment by looking at the nose shines and in my head they should appear as one and a half (like in Elliot's poses). I do realize this guy has a different type of noseshine though, so I thought I'd make sure^^. Any advice or insight on these poses is very much appreciated!=)

I think that pose number three for Elliot is the best as his legs seem nicely straight and you can't see too much of the two limbs behind the front ones. As for the dog at the bottom, he is gorgeous, I love the colour combnation there! Personally, I think that the noseshine is fine, there's just no sort of texture there compared to the dog above if that makes sense? But you can see that the shine on the right is halved though because the pixel width compared to the left is thinner. Hope I helped! xD

Thanks!^^ if I remember correctly Bambi Vision bred that Labrador with the surprise Labrador ow file=). I'm usually not such a big fan of that particular ow file, but I couldn't deny the fact that his pattern and colors make for a very interesting and beautiful coat.
I'll just start entering him in a couple of shows to see how he'll do and if need be I could always re-take his picture, though I'm hoping that he'll do just fine^^.
I was leaning towards Elliot's third pose as well, so maybe the best way to find out what other judges prefer is to enter that pose and see how he'll place=) haha.
Thank you for your opinion<3 I really appreciate it!

Yeah, that's true, then if you feel like you need to try some other pictures, that option is always there too! ^-^ I do that too, if I'm not so sure on a pose, I'll enter it anyway and just see how they do, then at least you can work out if you should try to pose the dog more nicely. It's a shame that dogz are so much more difficult to pose than catz! I get frustrated easily... Oh, that's okay, I'm glad I could be of help to you! <3

Oh, it's definitely true that dogz are usually a bit harder to pose, especially certain breedz (Bulldogs, Scotties and Mutts for example) but I think it just takes a little more practice than posing catz. Everyone can learn how to pose...I remember the first couple of poses I entered in pose showsxD but now I'd like to think that I know what I'm doing and that (even though it still takes me a while to pose certain petz as well) I'm capable of entering BIS worthy poses into the ring.
I see a lot of bad or just plain awful poses being entered in shows and some of those even place (high) in the end as well...really gets on my nerves sometimes, not just because other poses that were entered in the same show deserved those higher placements instead, but also because the owners of these petz think that they're doing a good job and keep entering those same poses/ the same kind of poses. While they could be improved so much, if only someone would speak up. I've thought about doing just that, but I'd hate to come across as someone who thinks she knows it better than the rest, so I usually just let it slide.
Anyway!^^ I think what I really wanted to say was that some people should just use this board and ask for advice/ feedback on their poses before entering. Same goes for (new) judges. Simply make sure what it is you're looking for in a good pose and be fair when placing petz...that way we all take the competition to a higher standard and showing will be fun for everyone involved=).
***Maybe it's an idea to let people Judge a few ''example'' shows/ answer some questions before they can open up a real show for actual points...but that's just an idea and I know some people might be against that. Even for people who have been judging for a long time...it wouldn't hurt to brush up on the standards/ learn some new insights!=)
Thoughts, anyone?^^

You know, I totally agree with you! I recently put one of my Dali's, Noire into a show because she was quite a challenge to pose, but now that I look at her picture I'm not totally satisfied wit it, so next time I put her in a show I'll pose her again. Here's the image that I had chosen: I think it's her face that bothers me the most, is it the alignment? I can't see too clearly because of her dark coat so her features are a bit difficult to focus on. I'm also not keen on the shape of her torso, but I'm not sure if that is a typical dali shape to be honest. However, about people giving opinions on poses etc. I think that people probably should speak up - perhaps people entering bad poses in shows think that it's acceptable because they are placing? Maybe they don't know any better? I don't know. xD When I judge shows, I focus on the alignment of the limbs, the tail and the eyelids/alignment of face. I know that there's more specific things to look for, but I recently started hosting shows myself and I think that you also learn as you do it too.

Noire is a beautiful dog! I really like those subtle Dali spots on her toes and other white patches^^.
Both her head and leg allignment are off though...she should be turned a little more towards the camera, for her legs to be properly alligned. I do have a Dali mix with the same type of black coat as Noire in my game, so I'll try to get a good pose out of her one of these days to show you as an example=).
If the legs are alligned it's usually a lot easier for the head to allign as well, or so I've noticed=).
It's true that practice makes perfect and you learn as you go along, but I also can't help and think that in the meantime it's still unfair to those who don't get the placement they deserve/ don't place at all, just because someone decides to host a show without really knowing what it is that they're looking for in a good pose (and it usually does come down to the little details, when deciding placements...^^). This is not aimed at you or anyone in particular though! I'm just sayin', haha.

Awwh thank you, she came from a litter that I was planning to re-home, but I just couldn't resist keeping her! <3 Oh, yes, if you could one day show me an example, that would be brilliant as I'll have a much better idea as to what I'm aiming for. It will definitely be a great help. Okay, so legs would be the main focus then? After you know where to correctly stand you're dog I guess it would be time to focus on th details then. I know that you mean about hosting the shows though and don't worry, I didn't take it as aiming at me, so you're fine. xD

Oh wow...I have no idea why, but that black Dali just did not want to pose. At all. So I figured I'd pose another one that I still had laying around with the same coat texture...although he doesn't have the same color. Please don't mind the head allignment...he was being a pain and just didn't want to allign his head properly and after a while I lost my patience:x but he's got good leg allignment that you can use as an example for Noire^^.

Ah, yes I see what you mean, Noire's head is definitely off then as even though you said that you're Dali's alignment is off, he's still looking better than my pose! I can see that she needs to be facing the camera a tin bit more and her legs could be that teeny bit more aligned together too. I'll work on posing her again and I'll look as this picture as a reference guide. Thank youuuu! <3
