Why haven't I been around for about 10 months or so? One lovely evening last summer, I was taking a stroll when, suddenly out of no where, a strange white van with tented windows zoomed up and screeched to a halt beside me. A vicious gang of sea otters jumped out, bashed me in the head, and threw me in the van before speeding away. I was taken to the sea otters' secret base on the bottom of the ocean, where I was forced to make sushi, scrub otter toilets and perform pole dances while wearing a grass hula skirt. I eventually managed to escape by crawling through a water pipe that was approximately 3 inches in diameter, and swam to freedom.
What? You don't believe that? Okay, I confess, that's not what happened, though I would have preferred that to what did happen. I've been battling with a chronic autoimmune illness for more than a decade. This particular autoimmune illness has caused no end of trouble in my mouth, including chronically abscessed teeth. I suddenly got really sick from some of this infection last July and developed sepsis, which is very very bad. I wasn't responding to treatments very well, so it took a long stay in the ICU and multiples tries with different antibiotics to start clearing the infection. Just when I seemed to be getting better, something went horribly wrong. I lost sensation and ability to move in several areas, especially my left arm and hand, along with vision problems, nausea, and other nasty things. It was discovered that the infection had caused a lesion on my brain. That's bad. To make a long story short, it's taken a lot of procedures, medicines, physical therapy, and a stay in a rehab facility (AKA nursing home), but I finally seem to be on the mend, for reals this time. But still, I would much rather have been kidnapped and held prisoner by an army of hostile sea otters.
So I'm back, with a new laptop to boot! Unfortunately, it's a brand new laptop, so I had to let go of nice comfy Windows XP and settle for Microsoft's new train wreck, Windows 8. (I hate it, don't get me started. Speed is this OS's only redeeming feature). But the important thing is that Petz works on it, and I've got all my petz files and stuff loaded on it now, so life is right again.
Thankfully, my e-mail box keeps e-mail for quite a long time, so I should still have all the e-mails sent to me since my absence, except for the occasional e-mail that might have ended up trapped in the spam filter. So, if you e-mailed me about any adoptions or trades and didn't get a response, I should be getting in contact with you soon. If, however, you don't hear from me within the next two weeks or so, feel free to give me a sharp poke in the ribs.
Having been a petz player since about 1997-1998, and a member of the Petz community for I don't know how many years now, it's something I have always come back to, no matter the nature, length, or severity of the interruption.
