I was wondering if theres a Google Browser like Internet Explorer for example or is it only a kind of search? I'm asking cause I just downloaded GoogleChrome and I thought that it was going to be a browser but it turned out to be just a search.

Well I also have internet explorer and I though google Chrome would look similar to internet explorer regarding getting news about things and all that kind of stuff but when I click on the icon on my desktop or through start menu this is what shows up. Is this the browser to me it just looks like a regular search to me unless I were to put an address to a site at the top? www.google.com/

I have no idea what you're talking about.
But Chrome is a browser like IE. It looks different. The link you gave is google.com, not Chrome.
Click my link. That's what Chrome looks like. You can download it from the link I gave you in my last post. It's a browser, not a search engine.

chrome automatically sets your home page as google.com, or at least it did for me. perhaps that's why you're thinking that you somehow only have a search engine & not a browser. google.com is a search engine, chrome is a web browser. it has an address bar at the top just like any other browser does.
click the link that midnight posted. it shows you a screeshot of what chrome looks like. if yours looks like that then it's a browser. easy peasy.

What they all said, I use Chrome for almost everything, so it's a web browser.
Also, this belongs in the help desk.

You're saying it takes you to google? What? If you downloaded it properly, you can open google chrome like you would internet explorer. Try searching for "google chrome" amongst your programs if clicking the desktop icon doesn't work. Take a screenshot of your desktop with the icon and upload it so we can see what it says.
You may also have to set Google Chrome as your default browser if you didn't do that while you were installing it. If the desktop icon you're talking about is, as I suspect, simply a shortcut to Google, then I do believe it will open in your default browser (Internet Explorer?).

midnightwolf the link you gave me is where I downloaded google chrome. I have an icon on my desktop that appeared when google chrome downloaded, and when I click on the icon this is all I get no normal browser. www.google.com/It's either because the Google Chrome is not set as your default browser as Rina suggests so it's opening in IE instead or Google Chrome is opening and your home page is set to Google's main page. eg: When you first open the browser program that is the page that it goes to automatically. You can still search and browse the web as normal, add bookmarks etc with Google Chrome. Internet Explorer goes to the MSN page by default (at least it used to, I haven't used IE in a while, I suspect it goes straight to Bing now instead.) which has more news items and celebrity news if that is what you are looking for? What version of Internet Explorer where you using before? Browsers have gone for a more minimalistic look in recent times so menus are hidden etc.. if you were using an older version of IE this change could be causing the confusion? You can change your home page at any time if you want to start up on a different website. In Google Chrome you click on the picture of a spanner on the top right and go to settings and you'll see a place where you can change the homepage. Just paste the website address in there and the program will load that page on opening, instead of google.com

I just recently (last week) installed Chrome on my laptop, was using IE9. I didn't elect to have it as my default, but when I open it from the shortcut on my desktop, it opens two pages at once in tabs. Google.com and the Google Sign In page... maybe that's what is happening that confused...?

You can bookmark pages in Google Chrome or am I missing something? Click on the star icon in the top right, use the drop down list if you want to sort the link into a sub-folder. You can import your existing bookmarks from Internet Explorer by clicking on the spanner icon then settings>personal stuff and you'll see a button near the bottom marked import bookmarks and settings just select Internet Explorer from the drop down list and click import.
