www.mapletreekennelz.webs.com/That's my current site for Maple Tree Kennelz. I want to neaten it up and add a hex archive, but I don't know how to do anything with html or whatever you use, and webs.com is super slow on my computer. Does anyone have some tips for me, or can tell me how to make a good looking site? I'm thinking for tabs I'll just have crew, adoptions, hexing archive, and about, instead of all of the different ones I have right now. I want something neat and simple, but like good looking. Once I can do this, I'll update my crew and stuff too! Thanks!

um, I guess I'm just wondering what people do in general for their sites, and how they do it, haha. that doesn't look bad, do you have to use html or whatever, or are there like preset background... things? and do you know how it is compared to webs.com? sorry, I have a lot of questions!
actually, i'm looking at your site, and it's really cool, like just what I'm going for. thanks so much by the way!

You can use html if you know how, there are preset themes avaliable, or you can make your own backgrounds and banners ect and upload them to it. I tried usning webs first and I felt like it was a lot harder to do things and didn't look like what I wanted. With google sites you can have a horizontal navigation bar like I have or you can have a sidebar on the left or right, you can customize you banner, add a footer, ect. You can do pretty much anything. Question are great! Let me know if you have anymore! Thank you! I keep changing the layout and it's currently under construction once again

um, I guess I'm just wondering what people do in general for their sites, and how they do it, haha. Templates are a good way to start if they allow you to edit the coding with something simple like html. I tried the templates on webs.com but personally found them to hard to edit the design to my liking with my limited knowledge but I believe you can design a site yourself from scratch and upload it to webs.com. I personally use some ancient html knowledge that's probably a few years out of date but works enough for my needs, Notepad to write the code, Paintshop Pro for editing my images and Filezilla to upload it to my hosting. I learnt from one of those "Learn HTML in 24hrs" books. They really are very good as each lessons builds on the one before and you can start with something simple and add more bells and whistles if you want to later on. I'm currently working on a crew site and I'm using tables for the layout which takes a minute to wrap your head around but once you get the hang of it and double check that you've closed all of your tags it's all peachy. lol A lot of people recommend learning how to make similar looking websites in CSS instead as it's more flexible. I'm only making a small crew site so I'm just using what knowledge I already have but if you are going to start from the beginning you may want to check out the alternatives and see which you prefer. There is a stickied thread at the top of this sub-forum with good links to HTML lessons so I won't repeat any of those but this site gives a couple of quick examples of layouts using tables: www.ironspider.ca/webdesign102/tables4layout2.htmI can't show you my site as it's still a work in progress but I'm using a similar layout to the fourth example but without the left menu column. If you look at the coding it will probably look confusing at first but once you've read a few tutorials you'll get a better understanding of the tags. Just think of the tags a bit like the capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and the closing tag as the full stop. Just the tags differ depending on what you are trying to do whether it's adding a picture, making a list or just starting a new paragraph. edited: reason, can't count.

Try W3Schools and this book I like, ISBN #978-0-470-53755-8. It's the best!
catbaloo, table layouts are outdated. Try CSS! It's what I use for my site!

thank you everyone! you have been so helpful so far, and I think I'm going to try google sites like silversheene said. But it won't let me put in background pictures, is there a certain theme I need to use so it does? And how do I add more tabs on the sidebar? that's how far I got :-[ sites.google.com/site/mapletreekennelz/

You have to go to "manage site" in to dropdown menu in the right, and than to add an image you go to colors and fonts on the left and you can change that there. Let me know if you have any other questions about it! Or you could go to the dropdown on the right and click on site permissions and add krizzinkiiya@yahoo.com as an editor and I can help you get started with tabs and removing the search box on the top ect.
