Just a quick question because I couldn't find anything when I searched the site. What is the significance of trotting pets? I think I know what it means (when they sort of canter around the screen like a horse does sometimes ) but it seems that not all pets do this. I only ask because I've noticed a few pets up for adoption have been advertised as trotting pets, and I wondered why this is a particularly desirable trait. Are trotting pets better in some way? ^-^''

Trotting is a semi-rare characteristic, and it certainly helps to make a pet unique in that way. It's like advertising pets with pink eyes, or whatever--some people find it to be an attractive trait. Unfortunately it makes posing said pets much harder, as when you drop them (unless done in a certain way) they flop to the group, so it's difficult to judge whether they are aligned or not.

Oh that makes sense I guess, it is nice to have unique pets Thanks for the info! EDIT: Some more thoughts: Is it possible to breed trotting pets, in other words, can it be hereditary or is it random? Also, is there something specific which triggers the trotting behaviour (which could be used to find out if a certain pet is a trotter or not? If your pet flops to the ground when dropped (like Brynn said) does that mean it is a trotter, or just that it might be?

Trotting is hereditary, although not 100% of the time. It depends.
If you pick it up and try to drop it up higher on the screen, it will usually flop down on the ground. Do this a few times to make sure, because some breeds do this if they are full, but usually only trotters do it. If you place them lower on the screen, it won't work that well so you can usually do it at the Adoption Centre, right beside the door.

I think people like trotters just because it's ridiculously cute to see them dancing around your screen haha. Trotting is hereditary, and I know that, from AC adoptions, the trait is most common in Danes naturally, and rarely, Dalis. I'm not sure about other breeds, I haven't researched this or anything haha, but I have bred purebred Danes and Dalis in the past so it's just something I've noticed. I think Poodles might have natural trotters idk?
It is more likely that you will get trotting offspring if both parents trot, and/or if the trotting gene is very dominant in the more recent lineage (I've bred a line of non-inbred Dalis purely for the trotting gene) - it seems pretty half-half if say one parent has strong trotting genes/is a trotter and the other parent does not really have the gene at all.
All trotters flop to the ground as far as I'm aware, if you drop them from anything higher than about 2 inches from the bottom of your screen! You can find out if a pet is a trotter in a much more complex way (by using a hex editor) but that seems like a lot of effort if you could just drop them from the top of your screen. Saying that, you can also cheat a pet into being a trotter by using a hex editor - there's a tutorial for this on my site, Aussome (link's in the sig) if you're interested. However, cheating a pet into being a trotter does not mean that it'll pass down to offspring (I actually have tested this lol). I think generally people don't make their naturally bred petz trotters as it seems a bit like... fraudulent, if that makes sense. The surprise and joy in a bred trotter is that it's naturally passed down! Lots of people, myself included, often make their hexed petz trotters though, as since they're not natural anyway, it doesn't seem to really matter if you cheat.

^Yeah, I'm not a big fan of cheating (I only use PetzA to create multiple accounts when I need to). Thanks for clearing this up for me!

I've had natural trotting Pugs It's not that rare either, haha. Sheepies are the most common, as almost every one comes out of the AC trotting. Although if you have a Unibreed file, they don't. You have to have a game verison file.

I usually try to tell which petz trot when I adopt them out in case someone does NOT like trotters. That way they don't adopt it thinking it walks normally and then get disappointed when it falls over and such. Lol. Some people who show their petz don't like trotting petz, so I try to list which ones trot out of courtesy. ^^;
