So I've bought a old/cheap laptop and I'm planning on installing Linux onto it because I want to learn more about the OS but I would quite like to put Petz on there if possible. Does anyone use Linux and have any recommendations? I've read that WINE is not very effective in this case.

WINE is not an emulator (as they state over and over), but it's the best way to describe it without giving a lecture. As for it working with Petz, well... it doesn't. It lags so badly to the point that you can't play with your Petz, because as the Petz are doing things it is translating from Windows to Linux speak, which is very time intensive.
Linux is a ton of fun to use and mess with, especially if you're programming minded, but I would not expect to be able to use Petz.

Nah man, wine is effective in any case. LOL Behave you. Tis a shame. I know people have got WoW to work but I guess there's a bigger audience for that so more motivation to get it running. (and I'm sure it's not perfect) I see on cedega.com they list Petz 5 as running but that's a pay service so I'm not going to use that just for one game. Ah well, I'll have fun messing around with Linux as it is.

Yeah, but it means you get a chance to check out all the really cool indie games people put out for free on Linux. That's the one part I miss about not having my Ubuntu netbook--there were a ton of neat games to try and mess with.

If you speed up the game using PetzA, the lag isn't as bad -- but it still is definitely present. Files tend to corrupt easily as well. I use Wine on my desktop, but still need my Windows laptop to play Petz. It's quite unfortunate. -_-
