So, I have in the PC for 13 years...time for a site. Any suggestions as to a tutorial how to get started? where does everybody get their awesome backgrounds and such?

I'd suggest first sketching what you want your layout to look like, so a rough scribble of where you'd put the navigation, the content, etc. Then think about what you'd like, content-wise. Adoptions? Crew section? About? Extra stuff? Then it's colour schemes. Complementary colours? Clashing colours? Monotone? Muted? Pastel? Finally, crack out the Photoshop/PSP/whatevs, or if you're not so good with the graphics part, jot down your ideas and post it in the Creative Corner as a request! Are you proficient in html? If so, that's you sorted, just whip it all together and advertise advertise advertise! (In appropriate sections of forums, of course.) If html flies over your head, I think webs.com has a very easy-to-understand design system to help with creating the pages. If you're making an adoption site, breed the litters before getting the site done/advertised, so that visitors have a reason to stay! I guess that works for whatever your site's going to be for though; if it's a crew site or an archive, you'll want to get at least some of the content up, rather than have "brb with stuff!" on every page. PS. If you're wanting to start learning the basics of html, I suggest you pop over to Lissa Explains. I learnt a lot of my html knowledge from there when I was younger! n__n

This would go in Help Desk, since you're not asking about Petz related things :]

Catherine did give you plenty of suggestions, haha. If you're learning HTML from scratch, a visit to Lissa Explains is the best method I personally know of. There are step-by-step guides, diagrams, and what have you, and it's awesome and eyecatching too.

lissaexplains.com is a great HTML information database. It has a lot of beginner tutorials on HTML, CSS, Image Mapping and the works. It is one of the resources I, as someone building sites for over 6 years, have referenced many times. It is very helpful in learning HTML for websites.

For backrounds I happen to LOVE using the ones the petz games give you. On Hoppipolla (my site, link is in the sig) I used the blue dogz backround and it looks so old school and cute!
