I hate to have two topics open at once, really I do. But this is fairly urgent. I was working on my business website that is hosted on Zymic and while doing so, the server went down. I lost what I was working on, and was worried for the ten minutes while it was down that I had lost the whole site (7 hours of work).
I decided to start paying for hosting, so I'd like to ask people who they're hosted by, how much they like it, and how easy it is to use. Do you always have to use html programs to update pages? Or can you update pages like on Webs or Zymic? If all goes well, I might host people's Petz websites through it as well. (I don't know if that counts as a sub domain or another website though?)

I use Webs most of the time. I've never had down time (that I know of), and it has lots of good resources. It's a great host

I've used Webs before, but there are certain restrictions that it gives you. For instance, if I have an HTML only website, I can't have e-mail forms on my website. Plus, I've had Webs delete inactive sites before, which is kind of a pain.

I suppose. But I'm looking for a host to purchase from, not a free host. Webs also requires advertisements on their templated pages and Freewebs tags on HTML only websites. For a Petz site, I'd feel fine using Webs. But since this is a business I'm opening, I'd rather pay for a host to make sure it's safe.

^YOu could buy a premium sevice. That gets rid of ads and I think the tags.

www.godaddy.comBest service ever; I recommend it to all my web clients. You have to pay about $60 a year for hosting, but you get unlimited everything basically.

Really? That's great. I didn't know they were good. This is probably a dumb question - but is there a file manage on the website or do I have to use some kind of file managing program? &Are all the features easily accesible? Like if I wanted to have subdomains, would I be able to do that easily?

If you want and if it lets you, you can use FileZilla to upload all your pages, works wonders :3

I ended up purchasing a domain through InMotion. Although I trust your judgement Neco, the site freaked me out a little bit, and I like too look into things extensively before I buy them. GoDaddy had too many bad reviews for me. I called InMotion and asked them all my questions and they seemed to be a really good site. I am paying a hefty amount though compared to GoDaddy.

I use SPHosting, and I pay 5.95 a month. I can have up to 10 subdomains and I think 50 e-mail addresses associated with my domain. And the domain costs $1.00 a year. My site has never gone down and the customer service is A+. To update my site, I just have all my html files on my computer and edit them with notepad and then when I login to my site I just upload my html files. I find that easier than the ftp programs. I know I might be a little late to the party, but just for anyone else that might be looking.

I'll keep that in mind if my webhost doesn't work out. (: Thank you!
