Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer will not work on my laptop anymore.
It all started on Sunday afternoon. We had a brief power surge. My laptop screen dimmed then brightened to normal again and then after that I wasn't able to get on the internet.
A similar thing happed to my aunt who lives down the road from me, but her comp is a desktop and up until just recently IE hadn't been working for her. My desktop was apparently not affected because I can still use AOL just fine.
My laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium on it, btw. I was just wondering if anyone knwe anyway of fixing this if it's fixable? And what should I do if it's not? Thankies in advance to whoever gives their advice.

Have you tried using the Restore Point utility in the Control Panel? Restoring to a time before the power outage may solve your problem.
It is possible (but highly unlikely) that your laptop's wireless was burned out by the power surge. Try directly connecting your laptop to the internet using a cable, and see if you can get it to work that way. Have you restarted your computer since this happened?

Since that happened I've left my laptop alone, only turning it on to see if the internet has fixed itself. It sometimes does this and when I leave it alone it'll fix itself, it hasn't done so. But I'll try that Restore Point untility when I get home from school today. Thankies for the advice Brynn. Also, what kind of cable would I need to actually hook it up directly to the interet and wouldn't I need to use a modem? Because my desktop uses a modem.

You'd use the same cable that goes from your desktop to the modem, only you'd hook the cable into your laptop instead of your desktop. Unless you have a router attached to the modem that will allow more than one computer to hook in to the modem, or some modems will allow more than one computer, but most don't.

I tried looking for that Restore Point utility thing in the Control Panel and it confused me. If I can't get the Restore Point thing to work I'll probably take it to the Computer Clinic down the road from me.

I don't use Vista, but I think you'd go to the Performance and Maintenance section (or somewhere similar) and it'll say something like System Restore along with other options. you just pick System Restore and pick a date, like a day before your power went out, then your computer will restore itself to how it was on that day, it's like going back in time "computer style"... This site will explain more what it is and what it does and how to do it: www.5starsupport.com/faq/vista-system-restore.htm#1-1
