This is for tail variations (its a tutorial from sleepycat's zip files thats not on this board, so I don't take any credit for writing it):
a different size tail like skinny/poofy/thicker or short/medium/long
for a docked tail variation you would do it like this
example is a great danes tail
[Omissions] 65 zorient 66 ztrans 67 utility addball for andrew 68 utility addball for andrew 69 utility addball for andrew 70 utility addball for andrew 71 utility addball for andrew 72 utility addball for andrew 73 utility addball for andrew 74 utility addball for andrew 75 utility addball for andrew 76 utility addball for andrew 4 5 28 29 ;TAIL #3 #2 #1 83 58 84 59 85 60 86 61 87 62 ##
basic variation set up
#3 #2 #1 ##
and you list which balls you want "gone" for that variation
heres the same thing but for a dali
[Omissions] 65 zorient 66 ztrans 67 utility addball for andrew 68 utility addball for andrew 69 utility addball for andrew 70 utility addball for andrew 71 utility addball for andrew 72 utility addball for andrew 73 utility addball for andrew 74 utility addball for andrew 75 utility addball for andrew 76 utility addball for andrew ;tail #3 #2 #1 58 59 60 61 62 ##
(this is how come alley cats don't always have two fangs)
now if you want a poofy/skinner/thicker tail variation then you want the [Ball Size Override] section for your variations, do a puppy/kitten version also and tie them together (like shown below with the adult and kitten tail variations tied together with #4.C)
example taken from one of my Calico breedfiles
adult lnz
[Ball Size Override] #4.C #3 #2 #1 43, 10 44, 25 45, 40 46, 55 47, 40 48, 20 ##
kitten lnz
[Ball Size Override] #4.C #3 #2 #1 43, 10 44, 20 45, 30 46, 45 47, 30 48, 10 ##
you just use the basic variation set up and list the tail balls and assign them a size ;D
Although I only have the default tail and a poofy tail variation, you could set up more just by putting the data under #2 and even #3. The reason I say to do the kitten/puppy version is so you can see the tail variations on the kittens/puppys and won't get a surprise when the kits/pups grow up LOL

I can't help you with that. I've never done different tails before

my suggestion is to look at some of the links to different hexing places on this forum. Some of them could be found most useful in dropping tails and flopping ears, though I'm told flopping ears is a nightmare for a first time.
