Dog Eat Dog is a wonderful dog RPG with very active members seeing as it only has 45+ at the moment. Help this fast paced growing site move along!
Dog Eat Dog
The Story
Somewhere in time, several decades in the future.
Humankind is, unfortunately, not altogether extinct. However, the remnant is in such small numbers and grouped together away from all natural predators for protection that the chances of ever running into one is slim to none. In the absence of human domination, it is accurate to say that nature reclaimed much of its former territory, and that species formerly endangered by all sorts of environmental challenges made a large comeback. Furthermore, some species that thrived during human population of the earth are also still around in great numbers, though not completely how the humans left them.
No one is exactly sure how humans became a weaker, endangered species – not that their intelligence changed, just that their numbers were reduced dramatically. What is known is what happened afterward. In 2001 there was an estimated 61.6 million dogs in the United States*. In the years afterward, their numbers gradually increased as the upward trend of the last several years continued. Following the human crisis, the dog population dropped sharply also, but not nearly as much as the humans’. Devoid of the care they had once received, the food and shelter, many sadly perished. For others life continued; the only adjustment was how they lived.
Over time, the dog as humans knew it fell out of existence. In its place was a feral canine with many of the same physical attributes as domesticated dogs, but with the wild mentality of their cousins, the wolf or coyote. They populated abandoned cites, keeping their old territory once shared with humans, and the outskirts around them.
* Companion Animal Demographics in the United States: A Historical Perspective.
There is a loose minimum postage amount, but it's only two paragrahps. It's an intermediate/advanced RPG. I'm Dixie on there!
