Hello, I'm Laura a 35yo living in California with my husband, two chinchillas and many plants. I, like so many of us it seems, am so stoked to be here rejoining the Petz community after a 2-decade hiatus.
I was on the subreddit hobby drama and one of the top posts of all time there was describing the game Creatures. I had totally forgotten about that game since I played it in my pre-teen years and frankly it was way above my head at that time. Looking into that game reignited my memories & interest in the Petz games that I was playing around that same time, probably around ages 10-14. I was absolutely delighted to see that not only could I replay these games, but also that the meta community is alive and well!
This week, with my husband's help, we setup parallels & windows on my mac and were able to get Petz 4 & 5 up and running fairly easily. I even had a few backed up .pet files in an ancient external drive archive. It's been a few days and I have been having a blast playing the game, looking through many community sites & downloading all kinds of fun add-ons.
I've had a hard last few years with my health & dealing with heavy things from my childhood, so it has been really meaningful to reconnect with my past in a positive way and to remember that I did have a place that I felt safe & seen even if it was online. After Petz I went on to play many more video games over the years and I am all the more impressed that Petz manages to be so engaging & fun without the traditional set of goals & progression. I am really enjoying the emphasis on experiencing things in the present.
As an adult, it's exciting to think about taking on some of the more complex elements of the Petz community like learning about hexing and site building. I am already enjoying the tools from Reflet, Asiyd & others that make the behind-the-scenes magic more accessible. I look forward to learning more and to engaging with this compassionate community!
