Hi guys! I haven't been here for about a million years. I was happy to see the forum is still pretty active!
Tonight I got to thinking (kind of out of nowhere) about a thread or topic I saw many years ago either here or on PCG:
I remember that a user had discovered a method for replacing the startup/loading screen for Petz 4 with custom-made images. I remember that a lot of users were really excited about this discovery until it was found out that replacing the startup image would allow things to run normally for a short time, but inevitably resulted in an error message that prevented the game from running correctly.
Does ANYBODY remember this, the instructions for how to do it, or who might have posted it? I remember the method for it seeming kind of obscure and not like something that a person would probably stumble upon very easily.

I don't know the discussion/thread you're talking about so I can't help with that, but you can see the startup screen images if you open your Petz 4.exe with Resource Hacker! You can also access it with LnzPro (change the file type to "all files" and you can open the DLLs and the game exes in addition to the normal things like breeds and clothes) it just doesn't show the pictures Presumably in either program you could just access that bitmap, save it to file, make edits, then Replace the one in the game exe with your edited one? I haven't tried this though so I have no idea about it eventually stopping working like that person said (I don't know why it would)

Aaah, it's good to see you, Amanda!
As soon as I saw your screenshot I knew Resource Hacker was TOTALLY the method I'm remembering, so I went and downloaded that and (while I found the custom startup screen I had made, yay!) right away I also encountered what the original issue was that ruined our fun:
So having seen this again, I now ALSO remember that we actually emailed Nicholas Sherlock and asked him if there was a workaround to this problem (our dedication to enjoying custom loading screens was strong), to which he responded to say that unfortunately no there is not. Ugh.

Wouldn't normally double-post, but I actually got this to work with PetzA!
The solution was hilariously simple: all I did was rename my custom bmp image to the have the same name as the image that I replaced, which was 503.
Additionally, I also found a link to a help page that explains methods for tricking the game to run with PetzA after the .exe has been modified to the point that it's a problem.

First of all, that new loading screen looks awesome, I love it!! <3 Secondly, I've never seen that link before...so is it possible/becoming possible to create ways to edit the Petz color chart AND run PetzA still? People are tempting me so much with altered color charts, but it kills me to know PetzA is incompatible with those versions of the game...so this is kind of hopeful, even though I might still be too scared to attempt anything, haha! Either way, thanks for sharing! ^^

Wow I've never heard of being able to do that, that's so cool! Your custom image is super neat. How cool would it be to swap out the load screen image depending on the season or any community events happening at any given time I'm not sure I'll attempt it myself right now, but maybe sometime!

I love the new start screen you made :) <3 so is it possible/becoming possible to create ways to edit the Petz color chart AND run PetzA still? :O People are tempting me so much with altered color charts It seems that is the case 👀 Maybe another post for this, but I'd love to see your custom color charts!
