Two males, so no breeding. They used to be best friends when I played dogz 3. But some years ago I imported them to dogz 4 and they became enemies ever after. I was wondering are they set as enemies or does the game change them over time? I forgot that bit since I last played the game. Of course I lost the files where they are friends, so am left with them fighting in my game.

Once they decide they don't like each other, that usually stays the same. You can make a copy of one of them and try the copy with the other pet. Might take a couple of tries.

^ Once two Petz have already met each other though, any copies would be the same. (At least that's how it's always worked for me...) I'd say the only way that works is if you have copies of them that haven't met each other yet...which, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like she does.
I've heard some people say you can train them to stop being mean by using the squirt bottle, but again in my own personal experience (which, granted, wasn't tested hardly at all because it felt mean) all it seemed to do was raise neglect and the Petz didn't seem to change their minds.
It kind of sucks when two Petz change their mind about each other...my first two P3 Dogz, Buster and Mandy, were a happy couple and had a single pup together years ago. Then they decided they weren't into each other anymore, and they ignore each other all the time...in my P3 game, I try not to influence romance in any way (for a more natural approach to the game xD) so I've just had to accept that's the way it is. I just try to find my Petz other friends or mates...I know it might not feel as special, but there's no reason for them to only need one other pet around, when they can find plenty of other buddies. ^^
In your situation, I'd just go on a fun little meet and greet session with a bunch of other Petz to find those guys some new friends, or groups they could play with without any issues. It can be fun to arrange a few playdates, or one big one! xD

I've been playing it with the two out and the game idle. Sometimes I pet them and I put food out to keep their weight from reaching 0. I notice they go though some of the non aggressive animations like play wrestling, and now they seem to take turns at who is the one barking and who is the one running. Earlier it was the less confident dog that ran (Ears).
There's some cute antics. Like one is sleeping and the other barks to wake them. I've seen one sneak up behind the other and bark. So it isn't all bad.
Still enemies though, but maybe not as bad as before?
I have in the past sex changed them and bred them using petza, but this time, without the brain sliders I'm just playing the game I guess closer to how it is designed. But yeah they seem friendly to other dogz and catz in the game, just not each other.

Haha yeah, these are actually 'enemy actions' that Petz only do to other Petz they hate. xD So they're definitely not getting along. That last one amuses me though and is probably the only mean interaction that actually gets a giggle out of me. x'DDD

I wonder how often enemies can become friends or at least neutral compared to friends becoming enemies. I've had pets get along and suddenly dislike each other, so it sounds like the reverse should also be possible.
Anecdotally, I have two dogs who are sisters and they HATED each other, something that only got worse with time. I just kept bringing them out together every once in a while and things seem to be better -- they still fight but a lot of the time they just ignore each other. I'm curious about whether they'll be able to become friends one day.

I think it's definitely possible lol. I've reversed this by making petz fall in love with eachother, by keeping the horniness slider at 100 constantly for both of them. They eventually relent and fall in love, slowly.

Aww I’ve had dogs/cats flip flop a lot. I wonder why/how it all works?

Hey! ButterflyChaser! You probably don't remember me, but I remember you! It's cool to see you back! ^_^
I've had two catz who hated each other, then naturally, with no input from me, they fell in love! I was delighted that they fell in love! But, before they ever managed to have kittens with each other, they fell out of love and hated each other again, I was very sad that happened. But apparently things like that can happen!

Meer, I remember you.
So the consensus is that they can fall in love but that is if they are male and female. The two dogz that I was playing with are both male. I hadn't seen any improvement after a number of hours of just letting the game run, so I kind of shelved that project and went onto other things.

I wonder if it's possible to get them to like each other in a platonic, non-horny way (like ButterflyChaser says above ^). That would give me hopes for Raffles's dramatic family. xD

Just an update. I followed this tutorial: gyiyg.neocities.org/relationshiptut.htmlThe only difference was that the two petz originally had 03 instead of 02 in the history when they were friends. I changed the 00 on Socks to 03 and the 01 on Ears to 03. The two old enemies are back to being best friends. and perhaps my favorite animation in the game when it comes up:
