I for one, am a bit apprehensive about this. I'm just learning about it today, and first report I see, is how the diagnostic app for checking if your system is good for the upgrade is giving false negatives. -OO- Edits - (The above statement is a little off-base, basically it's because they want computers to be more hacker-proof, and require TMP 2.0 for encryption purposes.)I'm all comfy and cozy with my computer... I usually love new tech, but with new growth, I fear the comfort zone will shrink. I'll eventually be moving everything within my VMWare machine. Thoughts? I'd love to hear from those of you who are more in-the-know about this. I've not been keeping up with it as I should. (I plan to study up, over the next few days.) Edits - Well, after just a short dig into the www, I have found out that my cozy machine will remain cozy, because my Intel processor isn't up to snuff for the new OS. La-Dee-Da. So, unless I install a new chip (which, I am not) I'm a Windows 10 user until it's no longer supported, or my computer dies. My advice is, do your homework before saying, "YEA! New OS!" Check your system info, and make sure it's up to par. If your system is older than 4 years (mine is), then your processor may not support it. I was rather caught off guard when windows 11 started being bandied about. Odds are good that I'll have to wait for a hardware upgrade before I even think about it. Needing a Microsoft account to run the home version sounds awful though. I'm more concerned about playablity of petz 4.

Yes, exactly.
The playability was also my main concern! That is my main reason for the VMWare, I try keeping it up-to-date, as I fear it will one day, be the only option for playing older games. I'm really grateful for it! I hope that it never becomes abandon ware. ={

I think so far the beta test stuff is just buggy. I don't think I'll be upgrading until my current PC dies though (aka when I get a new CPU that Microsoft decides not to write drivers for even tho it's capable of running Windows X on that CPU but we want to push people to buy the newest OS)

Pleaseeeee tell me they're stopping trying to pretend to be an iPad with 'applications' and stuff. Windows 10 is driving me nutss every single time I have to use it. If they go back to being what Windows used to be maybe I'll buy another one of their computers. But until then Windows 7 is the newest thing I'll bother with lol
At least my MacBook is honest about being a MacBook and isn't trying to be a Windows computer with 'executables' and 'programs' Why does Windows have to copy the whole app thing it makes their interface confusing and annoying. Also it took me all evening to try and set up a new user account without linking it to a bloody microsoft email
Forgive me Sue for ranting about Windows on your thread xD

I despise windows, but unfortunately all the best games are on it.

Haha yeah this. Luckily I don't think I've ever run into an issue where a game I wanted was "only available for Windows 10". I feel like a lot of games for Windows are for both 7 and 10. It's more about the GPU and CPU that usually don't want to do drivers for the newest OSes.

By the time I came to buying a gaming laptop that was the only one available. I asked for older but they won't do it, I guess they get a cut for selling newer ones and I don't have a clue how to build a laptop on my own, so. I just uninstall and hide as much as I can get away with and ignore the rest.

Forgive me Sue for ranting about Windows on your thread xD
Rant away, M'Friend! =D My next computer will be an Alienware gaming laptop... but as I said, this Acer desktop system has my loyalty to the bitter end. I was looking forward to it, however now I'm less excited. Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts.

I'm kind of reluctant about upgrading. :/ I had Windows 8 for the longest time and didn't immediately change to 10, in no small part because of all the privacy concerns floating around when it came out. I finally caved and switched to 10 when I put together my current PC but I'm not a fan. There are so many added bells and whistles I don't use or need and uninstalling/deactivating the ones I could was such a pain. I also don't like the way some things (like the control panel) have evolved. I think they might be easier to understand for people who aren't very tech-savvy, but it would be nice if they'd just made it optional. I end up having to look for stuff I could previously find with my eyes closed. Sorry about the tl;dr Regarding laptops and desktops, I'm partial to desktops. It's so much easier to upgrade and replace parts, which is useful, and they're so much cheaper. I still have my old laptop but it's mostly for working and other lightweight stuff.

This Acer Predator came with 8.1, and it wasn't bad, but I received the notification for the free Windows 10 upgrade very shortly after buying the computer, and I ran with it. I was very pleased with the change myself, and immediately added it to my older laptop. I'm not super-tech-savvy by any means, but I honestly have had almost no problems with this system and OS, and that to me is an A+ grade. I've never owned a computer (with an older OS) before this one, that didn't cause me a massive headache at some point. However, to be fair, I did own an Apple iMac, that I installed Windows XP on, Using Bootcamp... and it kept me rolling for years. But I did have the occasional issues.
The only reason I am changing over to a laptop for my next computer is simply so I can be mobile. And my granddaughter keeps reminding me, that she is to inherit this system. ;P (As she bats her big brown eyes at me)

That's a great reason to change, it's so cute that your granddaughter will get your current computer! It must be great to have an interest in computers that you can share Yeah, what you're saying makes sense if you don't do very intensive/heavy stuff with your system. Now that I think about it, I've had fewer issues with 10. My old laptop has Windows 8 and it kept having issues after many updates, which were a real hassle and time-consuming to solve. I've only had trouble with 10 like twice, so that's nice... I'm still not a fan of the overall design or how everything is so focus on a more cloud-based/mobile-inspired approach. I've never had a Mac, glad you could get XP to work on it with relatively few issues! I've always thought it was a major pain, so I'm just partial to PCs so I can just install games without having to worry about that.

She is so advanced in tech, she's 11. I had her using a mouse and playing Petz at 2, to teach her the basics. She flies on XBox, and I can't manage the controller. I used to teach her things, now she teaches me. :-}
And, I don't do heavy stuff. I bought this system mainly for playing Sims. And other gaming. I am an old kid. Also for all of the other things one uses a home pc for. Picutres, music, creativity...
That iMac was a beast! I'd do it again, but I really need a gaming system with a high end graphics card. Apple isn't quite up to it IMO. I want my Sims games to fly. ;->

That's so awesome! You must be really proud of her since you were the one who got her started with games and technology Hahahaha YES the pain of making The Sims run smoothly, I really relate! It's one of the reasons why I'm so happy with my current computer, they seem less likely to slow down to a crawl like they increasingly did on my old laptop. I don't play much stuff with demanding graphics otherwise but I like it when I can make The Sims look really nice instead of blobby.

Agreed! However, I am here in this thread again, because alas... Predator is misbehaving. I "believe" it is due to windows updates causing random and constant reboots. I was told by an IT, that it's one of three things... bad windows updates, power source or an app. I have eliminated the ladder, so I am now uninstalling recent updates and basically disabling future updates. Since I can't run windows 11 on this system, may as well ride wave as long as it lasts. Fingers crossed it hangs 10!
