I just brought a surprise dragon egg from pugs for 1000 points and when i tried to get the .pet file out in petz 4 it gave me an error unhandled exception. exception access violation. abort or debug. Both of these options close the game. Buying something that expensive I want it to work. if not I have lost alot of points Anyone know how to fix this?

Have you asked Celestia about it, since she hexed the dragon? I'm really out of it right now but I feel like I've seen that error before...I'm sure it can be fixed. If I remember anything, I'll let you know. Hopefully someone else will think of it faster though xD EDIT: Actually can we see a screenshot of the error, just in case there's more info?

Ooh yeah, that's right, the "verbassert" error most commonly means it's got something incompatible with the version of Petz it's in!
Since you got into the game without crashing, I assume the .pet file itself IS for P4, but perhaps something like an external texture isn't working right? Or a breedfile, if it needs one?
Did your dragon come with either of those?

Okay I have two theories, but to test them, both require permission from Celestia, unless she wants to look into it herself. (In other words, after I let you know what I think, I can't do much else at this point) 1 - Something could be a little weird with the texture and how it was put into the pet file. I know Moonflower's dragon textures had this funky thing I noticed...if I tried to apply the textures in PW, and then open the pet in-game, they would cause an error (I THINK it was this error) and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. I had to tweak the Textures area in LNZPro and apply it slightly differently to make it work right. This was all a while ago, my details are a little fuzzy, I could be wrong on this. 2 - I have seen some textures made for/used with P5 that actually did cause an error like this when moved to P4. It could be that the texture file needs to be altered to work right. It would also be good to test this texture on another P4 pet to try and isolate the problem, because it might not even BE the texture at all. xD But again, that's all stuff we don't currently have permission for. So yeah. Like I originally said, don't worry because I DO think this can be fixed. ^^ Just wait for backup and we'll get it sorted!

Hello! This happens to me sometimes, usually due to how I saved the texture. I've been having issues with textures recently for some reason.
Please try moving over the texture to a brand new file. Replace it with the old. If this does not work, please let me know!
