Hello, my name is Mauschi and I am absolutely new to petz. Well, at least to the community; I did play Petz 3 when it first came out. However, I didn't have internet back then and two days ago, when I googled the game just for fun, I was surprised that it was still a thing. As you can probably imagine I am a little lost right now. I read through many pages of the Petz talk & help board and also looked at some pics of your pets, but I still didn't really get what exactly this community is about. The breeding part seems interesting (I'm not into hexing), but I don't know what exactly is looked for. So please be patient if I act like a total noob - that's exactly what I am Anyway, I downloaded Petz 4 and am really excited about it. Already started crossbreeding bulldogs and scotties and got myself a b&w shorthair again - even though I was always more of a dogz person I remember my cat Sam from years ago and it's nice to have a new one now. I even caught myself calling her "Sam" in my head several times which makes me realise that I'm suddenly missing a virtual pet I had as a pre-teen. That's all I can come up with right now. If you have questions, please ask And if you know any links to get a good idea of the community, I'd like some reading material

Hi there! Welcome to RKC, and to the Petz Community. ^^ Don't worry, we were all noobs at one point. xD I'm sure you'll fit right in nicely in no time. This community is kinda what you make it.. If you enjoy breeding, then a lot of us breed litters and share with others. Like RebeccaMonkey said above me, there's the showing aspect, that's closely modeled after real dogs and cats shows. Also, some people like to "naturally raise" they're petz, which basically means that you don't use PetzA for anything, and you let your petz grow, "fall in love" and take care of them naturally, the way the game is just by itself with no mods. LOL But of course, the way you wanna play the game is all up to you too! I'm not into hexing at all, but I really love the breeding aspect of the game. It's surprisingly in-depth with how well the genetics pass down traits and all that jazz. Here's some links you may, or may not have seen yet: - Sherlock Software - very useful tools for your petzy experience. PetzA is what I use all the time (except for my "natural" group), it makes petz life easy-peasy. No waiting for petz to grow up, no annoying bouncing food bowls at dinner time, and (best of all to me..) this allows you to bring more than two petz out at a time. - Intron/Exon - this site goes way deep in the gene pool, and really explains markings/traits etc. - Carolyn's Creations - I greatly recommend visiting! Carolyn has made a ton of unique and awesome breeds to add on to your game - Legend Ink - Another great forum that focuses mainly on showing. (I'm a brand new member over there LOL) And of course, you can visit my personal petz and crew sites, the links are in my signature.. Which is another part of the community, that was really big back in the day.. There's not a whole lot of traffic going to personal petz sites these days, only because the community isn't as huge as it used to be. Like you said, you didn't know that this was still a thing, and so many others don't either. Hope some of that helps. We're all very friendly here, so please don't hesitate to ask questions. We don't bite. (well, some of us might LOL) Hope to see you around! ^^

Thank you all for the warm welcome and special thanks to Aubrey for the detailed information. Those links are very helpful! Guess for now I'll stick to breeding and training a bit (training doesn't really seem to be a thing, right?) and reading through the links and the board

Glad you found what you want to do! Training is a thing in game, and some people do it, but yeah it doesn't seem to really be a thing and there's no/few trick competitions and such. I always fail at training, so good luck There are help boards on it if you need me to link them

I really appreciate how nice you are here! As I said, I never knew people still played Petz. Actually, I never knew that people played Petz at all. I missed the game for years, therefore I played Neopets and Subeta, but it was never the same. I guess it was Petz that made me play those games, and none of them was ever as nice as the original.
The fact that I'm suddenly able to play a game from my childhood is just plain awesome.
Also that there is still a community! The only thing I'm missing is a guide for absulute beginners. I don't wanna ask what a show is or what is popular. I even feel embarassed about how it works to adopt a pet out. Probably my beasties are not even intersting right now since I read somewhere that it's only the 16. generation onwharts that people like them.
rebeccamonkey & Aubrey (how do I link you to my answer?), I think I found a pretty good guide for training over google. I'm actually a little sad that the cat I adopted in the spirit of the cat I lost years ago doesn't do tricks. She just stalks the treats. Is it really entirely impossible to train her?

You can link names by putting an at @ sign in front of someone's user name (which you can get by hovering over their profile name) that sounds confusing haha. So mine would be @ monkeygirl103 but without the space Hmm I would think there would be ways to train your cat? And I know what you mean by the good, beginners tutorial though, I will have to look for one like that! It's fun finding a game you haven't played in a while, and the community! Buzzfeed actually just did an article on children of the 00's and Petz was in it! I didn't really use adopts at first either. Most have a short set of rules. But mainly you fill out a form and pick the non-adopted petz you want (sometimes there is a max number) and include an email to receive the files. People will have rules normally about if you show them, they have a prefix, and yes or no to MPA-ing, which is adopting the pet back out as a more personal adoption. Also some people will want them back instead of deleted, it sounds like a lot but it's not so bad!

Sadly some catz just can't be trained however, you can use the trickster tool on jewellz.co, click extra, trickster tool, upload your .pet file and download it again should make your kitty trainable!

So just for trying, I hope @rebeccamonkey and Sasha will receive my reply rebeccamonkey, I'm not familiar with buzzfeed (at least not the media itself) but that sounds pretty fun! Did that article also include the community or did it present Petz as an ancient game from long gone? If you actually manage to find a good tutorial for people that only played the game in the late 90s and early 2000s, I will be forever grateful! Google is hard to use because it usually sees the "z" in Petz as a typo and therefore only directs me to the sites with traffic. lunarkitty, I didn't download any extras so far (only the game itself and PetzA), but that sounds really tempting. I would so love for Amanda to do tricks. Do you have experience with that tool? Amanda is a black and white shorthair and therefore has lots of attitude. Will her personality be altered if I use that tool? I don't want her to change in general, I only want her to be trainable. I tryed spraying her when she stalks, but that only increased her neglect. My stupid chinchilla persian, which I only adopted because I read it's fun to torture, doesn't do tricks, either. Right now she seems rather useless; I'm just too much of a soft touch to torture her myself and I hoped Amanda would do it. Ironically, Amanda hates everyone exept for that dumb chinichilla. They became friends instantly. I planned on keeping Amanda forever since she is just like Sam whom I lost years ago. Guess Lacey (the chinchilla) just made herself irreplacable - she's Amanda's first friend and I don't remember any chinchilla persian from the early 2000s. I probably had some, but they were never special. In that case, well played, Lacey! Edit: The first name didn't work out well. So once more, if it doesn"t work, I give up. So, @rebeccamonkey

I personally don't have any experience with that tool but I do know that all it does is change the 'does this cat do tricks: yes/no' wherever that may be in the file and it doesn't alter anything else. Also for future reference: you need to tag people's username, rebeccamonkey's username is monkeygirl103, see: RebeccaMonkey. And if you ever adopt a cat from someone else you need their permission to turn them into a trickster. Hope this helped!

Also, I'm pretty sure that after using the tool to turn your pet into a trickster, then that doesn't pass down when breeding. But if you have a pet that "naturally" does tricks, then there's a chance that will pass onto the kittens as well. c: I've got plenty of kitties that do tricks if you'd like some? To add to what Sasha was saying about tagging people by username, a quick way to find that is by hovering over their name with the mouse.

🌠 Aubrey Thanks for the advice with hovering over the name! For some reason I thought the name showing up was the same as their user name, but good to know it's not Also, thank you Sasha for pointing that out Is it okay if I ask questions here? I feel like opening a board might seem kinda random since most people are around for longer and what I'm asking is really, really basic. In my defense, I actually read all of the 73 pages on the help board (or at least the titles), but they only go back to 2010. I guess that community is around for at least ten years longer than that. On the other hand, I know how annoying noobs can be. So I'll try to keep it to a minimum. The things that popped up were: 1. If I adopt a pet, I know I have to follow the guidelines from the person who adopts it out. But if I adopt a pet out, do I delet the pet's file on my server? Or do I keep it in case the other person loses it? 2. I have many breeding-leftovers already. Does it make sense to try and adopt them out or should I rather delet them/ keep them in an extra file? I only started playing a week ago and don't know if anyone is interested in my beasties. Most of them are bulldog-scottie-mixes, but I also have some weird experiments I did with downloads. Those are only gen 2, the bully-scotties go back a little furhter; gen 4 at most. 3. With showing; that is only about petzpix, right? Is the pet itself also judged or only the pose? Mainly wondering if I could enter a gen 1 pet or not. 4. Just out of pure curiosity: Do you guys still have and love gen 1 petz? Edit: Talking about beeing a noob... I just reread the posts and finally got that RebeccaMonkey already explained the thing with the user name. I'm very sorry, on first glance I thought your example was the same name as the one showing up here. If there was a face-palm-smily, I'd use it now...
