I've decided to start a little "selective breeding" project.
Dazzle -- Marissa
Rolan -- Charles
Dazzle -- Marissa
Rolan -- Charles
You know how foxes have been "domesticated" in Russia by fur farmers? In selecting the tamest ones, eventually their features, colors, and markings changed. They became larger, more color variation, even their tails changed shape. Well, the same thing has happened with a certain cheetah breeder. They selected only the cheetahs that tolerated humans the best, in order to make handling them easier, and after a while, color, shape, and size began changing. They became smaller and several color variations showed up.
These four cats are the results. The project is still in its infant state and careful breeding is being done to perfect this new "breed." I've been tasked with doing this careful breeding by not only selecting cheetahs to use for the project, but by bringing them into my home and insuring each one bred has desirable traits and will hopefully pass those on.
I've selected these four for now, two females and two males, due to their personality when I met them, their size, and partially their coloring. Dazzle has classic cheetah markings and color, but she is the smaller size and personable disposition I am looking for. Marissa had some of the most unique coloring I saw when picking out who I would take. She looks like a large, lean housecat. Don't be fooled by her looks, though. She has reminded me more than once that she isn't too far separated from the wild cheetah. Rolan is a handsome boy with a fairly calm personality. I hope he will pass this on. I won't lie and say his gorgeous blue eyes, whitecoat, and black spots had nothing to do with choosing him, though. He is stunning. Charles is my favorite. His spots and coloring only differ slightly from a classic cheetah's, but his green eyes are beautiful and unique. He also is very sweet and social.
Wish me luck as I continue this project. Maybe sometime in the near future, these miniature, tame cheetahs will be a common pet.
*The story about foxes is true. The cheetah one is not (as far as I know). This is of my own invention inspired by the Russian Silver Fox project where foxes were truly domesticated and changed color/shape/size as a result.
I hexed all but Dazzle. These cheetahs are from CK's Cheetah file which if anyone wants, I can send it to you.
