I love ratties, too cute! I have 2 males, a baldie and a black with a white tummy, named Voldemort [Morty] and Benedict [Benny] that are about 5-6 months old now. They're the funniest little buggers sometimes! <3

Holy cow...I literally squealed at every single picture...then scrolled back up to start over again. xDD I LOVE THESE! <3 (And showed my sister, who squealed along with me LOL)
I really looove the all-black one(s)! Absolutely beautiful!! It's a goal of mine to have some rats someday, but since mom doesn't want them and we have cats, that dream's a long way off right now. But if I ever get one, I want an all-black one because for some reason, I just love that! (Of course, we'll have to just wait and see what the future holds. xD)
ANYWAY I love them!

Oops sorry! I assumed this board was for petz pics only Now I know! @raver those names are the best lol. Yeah they do the funniest things, always make me smile with their derpiness. Like today I gave my ladies some newspaper, one was very excitedly trying to stash the paper in her house but another one was sitting on it so it wouldn't budge. lol. She was so confused. CatCreature hehe I'm glad you like them. :3 I am a sucker for mink rats. I LOVE minks. I just find them irresistibly adorable. Most people don't like black rats very much so that's awesome lol you shouldn't have a hard time finding one. With my breeding project I have to try extremely hard to be impartial to colours etc because I'm breeding for health & temperament only. >_< In Australia we haven't been breeding as long so we have a lot of work to do to get rats healthy & friendly as opposed to other countries that have been selectively breeding for many many years.

Oh wow, they are so adorable! The first picture reminds me of a female I used to have the pleasure of being my rattie companion, her name was Twix!
Goodness, that last pic, the black one with the white blaze...male or female? Seriously gorgeous!

He's a dude. I've named him Mr Cheese Wedge. The marking is called a Wedge Blaze and all my rats are named after different types of cheese, so it suited. He was such a surprise, there hasn't been a blazed rat in my project for at least 5-6 generations, before I bought my starting rats. I've never had a wedge blazed rat before and most of my rats are plain old black & mink berkshires so he's something a bit different. And to top it all off he is really healthy and friendly so far (touch wood) which is the most important thing of all. :3

OMG. Cuteness overload! I miss having rats soooooo much. They are such awesome pets, and I love, love, love black rats. =D I'd so buy one if I could, but I think shipping a rat to Canada wouldn't be the best thing for the little guy or gal LOL

I'm not in the position to adopt them right now, but Mr. Cheese Wedge would definitely be on the top of my list if I were to be. In about 2 years or so my boyfriend and I will be taking in two boys (or possibly girls). That's true too, healthy is by far the most important aspect (and friendliness!). How long is your average rat's (at your facility, I unfortunately know the average life span in general from experience of owning rats over the years) life span? My longest lived baby was 3 years, his name was Buster, grey and white hooded. <3 May he rest in peace, handsome, squishy boy.

jax surely they have breeders in Canada right! @tofupup 3 years is pretty good IMO :3 Where are you located? I'm in Australia and frankly rat health is just crap here. I keep most my babies and give a couple away to friends rather than generally advertising to the public. I'm still in the early stages of working through health & temperament problems and I would hate to give someone a bubbie that gets sick later. But my friends understand that I'm still working on them so I'm happy to give excess ratties away to them. As for ages here's a few ages of their relatives! For fun. I like recording this stuff. Necropsies are performed on all my breeding rats & their relatives so I can work out why they died, in case it's something serious that can be inherited. MPJS Edam (great great grandma) - PTS 2.5yrs for tooth root abscess she would have lived longer. MPJS Parmesan (great great grandpa) - PTS 1.9yrs respiratory 28 Colby (great grandpa) - PTS 1.5yrs respiratory 28 Vespa (great grandma) - PTS 2yrs pyometra (pus filled uterus - not inheritable) 28 Cheese (grandma) - died from heat stroke accident at 10 months so I'll never know 28 Zombie (dad) - died just 2 days ago at almost 1.9yrs, sudden death, unknown cause, necropsy was not possible. Then their mum is still alive at almost 1yr. So yeah still a long way to go there. And a lot of rats from my litters that AREN'T bred from pass away sooner which is why I don't sell any yet. The sad thing is that my guys have better health than most aussie rats which is why I am trying so hard to work with them. It's not just as easy as discontinuing this line of rats and finding healthier ones from another breeder, because healthier ones don't exist. >_< But I'm SO proud of these 3 litters. These are the first litters where EVERY baby has remained healthy up to 6-9 weeks old so I take that as a sign of positive progress! Oops I rambled. I get over excited about rats sometimes.

keishyrat Oh yes, they do, but those babies of yours are so cute. That is really tragic about their lifespan in Oz. =[ One of my rats, K-Ci, lived until she was 5 years old. She was a good momma and had 3 litters. She was just your average black and white hooded rat but I loved her so. <3 She was a pet store rat too, so I guess I really lucked out with her.

Aww ratties are so cute! Like many others have mentioned I love black rats as well, but for me, that goes for any pet. It is a shame that black colored pets always seem to be the most unwanted.

These are the first litters where EVERY baby has remained healthy up to 6-9 weeks old so I take that as a sign of positive progress! Oops I rambled. I get over excited about rats sometimes. I'm all the way on the East coast in America. So, unfortunately, when it comes time, I wouldn't be able to get some babies from you, although I would love to very much so. That's wonderful you have the necropsies on your rats that have passed away, that could help so much with breeding for longevity among other things. Thank you too, 3 years was my longest lived baby, and I wish it could have been longer, but I hope to have a few babies as long if not longer in the future! I was looking over the necropsy results you posted up there and I saw Vespa's and a pyo? See it all the time in dogs, but, you know, that's silly of me, I never even thought of rats getting pyometra, but they have a uterus obviously, so of course! That makes me want to get my next female(s) spayed even more. I was always wary of the anesthetics. I'm so happy all of your current babies are doing well, that's so wonderful!! I'd be proud too! Haha, don't worry about rambling about rats either, you just are passionate about them, and that's a good thing! I start rambling whenever it comes to my dog or rats too! ^__^
