Well, I'm graduating high school in just afew months, and although I won't be able to keep a cat (or other mammals, for that matter) in a dorm, I'm well on my way to pet-getting freedom. Sweet Jesus. FINALLY.
Mom has never willingly allowed me to have a cat, and although I've managed to squeeze one by, I'm under no circumstances allowed more than one cat or a dog. >___>
SO YES. I'm finally going to be my own man (er, woman :P) and'll be able to have as many cats/pets as I desire! Muhahaha. BD
But yeah. I'm thinking two, maybe three max. I'm just hoping I don't go nuts with my new found freedom and wind up with like ten. @__@
So yes. The question will at some point be undoubtedly raised: Just how many cats is too many?

I'm just not really a cat person, but geez I saw a video on America's Funniest Home Videos and these people had like 9 or 10 cats in a tiny bathroom, and one by one they all came out like a clown car! That's nuts.
I would have that many dogs, but they would be like outside/heated garage dogs.

I think 3 or 4 is fine. But hey, take as many as you want as long as you can care for them (;

XD
I seriously probably won't let myself get more than maybe ... Maybe like two for me and one for Josh. He wants a Russian Blue badly.
Most people I know who have cats either have one as a ratter that they more or less don't socialize with (and they usually don't neuter/spay and the thing shoots out kittens ALL the time), or they love cats/animals and have like four.

I want 5 cats someday.. I can't imagine having less than 2. Right now I have 2 and like you, my mom didn't willingly let me have them XD. I want 5 black cats so all the kids in the neighborhood think I'm a witch and stay far away from me >:3

personally, I think the number depends on how many you yourself can handle and give attention. Some people cant take care of very many at once, while others are perfectly capable of taking care of numerous pets at once with no problems

Well... I've got five, I wish I had six (Oriental Longhairrrrr ;_;) and I manage just fine. So long as you're okay with cleaning litterboxes OFTEN then it really isn't that difficult to manage having a little clan. I suppose I'm lucky though, all mine get along famously. edit: I think to answer your question.. You know you have enough cats when you start noticing how much work it is. I've got a nice little system worked out with my kitties right now, but I know one more would be pushing it.

I love cats. I have always dreamed of owning about 5 or so. Especially Oriental Shorthairs or Russian Blues.

^_ Arh so?
I voted "You can never have enough cats! n_n" so long as you can look after them and are able to sustain a nice little enviroment and something friendly where all the cats just about get alonge and there is a nice iccle ruintine going you should be fine. As Syn said if you had more than one you'd need more than one or two trays depending on your dorm/house style. We have about five trays? three go in my room at night because I have six cats in there (Stripe, Timon, Phlix, Socks Maggie and Kookie) Chewie and Toto tend to go out at night which I dislike but if I was to shut them in there would be no house left. But through the day two trays go in my room, two downstairs and one near the bathroom so if say Timon is being moody and is domonating one room Phlix could then choose between the bathroom or any of the three trays downstairs to use xD Plus theres the toys so they could entertain themselves. A new pet store opened this week so on Monday i'm going splashing the cash to buy some supplies, mostly this amazing new large litter tray thats almost four times the size of a normal tray. A climbing post/scratching post thing with this weird ball hanging off haha. And just loads more toys for them to kill off so I csn buy them new ones Dx
urh okay ranted there. But yeah >_>;

I think as long as they are taken care of, you can have as many cats as you want. Obviously proper love and care for 20+ cats is impossible, so I guess that'd be a limit. I mean, I have two cats that I can barely give enough attention to, so it really depends on your situation & devotion to the furry lil buggers. this made me randomly lol 8D

I said 3-4 for me personally, because I know that's my personal limit of ability. It depends on how many you can properly care for and love and give attention to, while balancing the needs of the outside world. The rare hoarder who can give perfect care to 20+ cats generally has abandoned or been abandoned by the other people in their lives. So it's important to realize there must be a balance between the cats and your human connections.

I currently have 8 cats total. The outside cats crowd the door and trip my mom, it's nuts.

Simply, You can never have enough cats. XD Just as long as you can feed them, keep them clean, and keep them all spayed and neutered.
