I'm very rusty at showing... And plain just not the best at picking out good poses. What original breeds (dogz, or catz) would be a good place to start over at?

as a fellow shower (not judge), here are my recommended breeds! for dogz ;; i'd definitely recommend the dalmatian! they look great in the dali pose (obviously!), and will always throw the perfect pose (you just have to catch the frame!) i don't use the method myself but you can turn on autosave, hold space/enter and take photos frame by frame, and select the best one. it does also mean it's somewhat competitive! they look good in dane too. dane poses look great but are harder to achieve, as they aren't 'always guranteed': a mix of great timing and the pet swivelling its head a certain way. danes/labs also tend to have odd legs that don't line up as nicely as a dali's in alignment. for catz ;; i'd personally start with RBs, mainecoons, BWS or tabbies/mixes, given they throw frequent poses! they have nice legs (and easier to align you can tell when its off), and don't have eyelids like calicos (which, while they love to pose, are challenging with their fluctuating unevenness). BWS just look so nice to me! they do have angry eyes but it isn't faulted by most judges i believe. i find it hard to tell if i aligned persians well or not with their floofy bodies, and oshies and meezers have specific methods of getting them to pose as they don't tend to volunteer it. so i wouldn't recommend them if you want something easier, but they're a fun challenge! (: CRUSH has a nifty list here that outlines the independence levels of breeds (which affects their willingness to pose!)

I personally like great danes. Labs are good too. They don't jump out of alignment as much.

I think this would go more in the pose help and advice section, so I"m going to move it there.

To be totally honest, I'd recommend starting with petz you really like. Some breeds are easier to pose than others but it's easier to stay motivated if you're working with your favourite pets/breeds.
When it comes to catz, I think BWs and Tabbies have pretty simple shapes and pose a lot so they might be the easiest. Maybe Calicos, but I'm not sure.

I second everything nebula says! I'll also add that if you have any of the P5 breeds, the catz breeds are really easy to pose too. And for the P5 dogz, I've had good luck with Jack Russells and papillons in dali pose.
