shaina @ kizmet: Ooh thank you so much for compiling all of this breed info and sharing it with us, Shaina! I loved that chart you did on the range of personality values for the different breeds. Maybe the data you're collecting now can be used to create something similar for breeds' favorites? ^^ CatCreature & silverfish: Yes, editing their favorites is quite simple! I could update the tutorial to show how to do that. When we were first discovering this stuff on the hacking Discord, I had a member send me their picky pet who only ate the chicken flavor. I edited their .pet file to swap the chicken for beef and then their pet ate out of the blue food bowl for the first time! So swapping one flavor for another is definitely easy and do-able. But like you said Silverfish, there could be limitations once you try to add in additional preferences, etc. We should probably look into that more!

I just realised from Thor's program that I was wrong -- the pets in Raffles's family tree who like purple actually like blue. I counted wrong. Some colours definitely seem to be rarer than others. I've seen petz who like "clear" but none of mine do. I've got very few (maybe just one each) who like brown, white, and black. I haven't seen anyone who actually likes purple or grey. In terms of flavours, I'm guessing some are impossible as "natural" results -- I haven't seen ANY pets that like sweet, for example. Iirc pigs may be able to like the vegetable/plant flavour (I could be misremembering) but no others ever seem to. It's really interesting and weird. I wonder if editing the values would make them inheritable, somehow? Like genexing petz, but for preferences? This could also help us figure out whether there's an hereditary component. Interesting to look at the chinci/alley inbuilt preferences, I have a fish loving alley and a cheese/fuzzy loving chinchi. They have a child whose faves are... fish, cheese, and fuzzy. Don't have a lot more bred petz so I can't tell if it's a pattern. One thing I did notice was how many of my petz like green. It seems like the only ones who like other colours originated in other people's games. Is anyone else noticing a similar pattern? I've noticed some colours are very rare, at least in my game, and the pets that like them were bred by other people! I wonder if there's a slight tendency (even taking breeds, etc. into account) for pets from the same game to get similar preferences. You may be onto something.

Yeah the colors don't make a lot of sense? From the natural raising side, I feel like I've heard stories where people thought their pet's favorite color was X, but then according to their code, its Y. I'm not sure if anyone here has noticed a strong sense of "I love this toy" based on color alone?
Flavor seems more noticeable when you have a picky pet. I wonder if color only matters for picky petz too?

from my experience with natural raising, it seems like familiarity and reinforcement play more of a role in determining toy preferences than affinities do (my petz tend to get out toyz they've played with before from the carrying case, especially if they've brought them to the cursor and been petted for doing so before), though it's possible if they have a variety of toys with about the same level of familiarity and reinforcement attached to them that they might be more inclined to go for one that's their favorite color over the others?

I found how to get poodles to like other flavors than chicken by editing in the breedfile the byte 4A 04 81 C1 8C 00 00 00 to 4A 04 81 C1 8C 02 00 00 for both instances.
Adopted poodles will still have only one favorite but it will be random beef, bone, or cheese. This seems game stable and passes on to offspring their favorite food preference. The hex editor may or may not show their preference.
If you edit only one of those bytes the adopted poodle will like chicken and one other flavor but it will be wonky and unstable in the game. Adopted poodles are fine. They just don't pass down the 2nd flavor to their offspring.
