I am so terrible at posing my petz. >.< I'm getting really bummed about it. One problem I have is calico tails. I can't tell which is the best position for their tail. So if anyone could give me some tips, I'd really appreciate it.
Number One
Number Two
Which tail is better? I know his eyes are terribly uneven, but I can't help that. XD

Calico tails are hard! xD They're just so ~kinky. The tail in the second pic looks fine to me, it's more curved than the first one. Their tails don't seem to curve near the tail tip, I think it's the last 2 tail balls that stay almost straight throughout the pose. However, and if I may say so, the alignment in general is a little off... I'm not sure if you are asking to only check on the tail or the pose as a whole... but the kitty looks turned too much towards the camera. It's been my experience (working with Anchovie), that calis have larger feet, and even in perfect alignment, you can still see some of the left front foot behind the right, but only slightly. The front of their legs will appear as one like most other breeds. As an example, here is Anchovie (not saying this is perfect, but he's done real well with this pose) You can see just a shadow of the left foot on the front. And for comparison, Lucky Seven: He's turned too much away from the camera, as you can see a whole ankle. xD I know these don't have calico tails, but.. maybe try lining up the front feet, and the tail will come into place as well. Keep in mind that calico tails are kinky, and will be straight near the tip. c: Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help! Yeah, it's that kinky end of the tail that was putting me off and making me not sure which way is preferred for calico tails. Now I know, thanks!
But yeah I am terrible at getting legs aligned right, I can never seem to do it.

I would personally say the first one is better in terms of tail because you can see the tail tip starting to go backwards on the second.
Also, don't forget to put Cat in the thread title. ^^

So I did a study of Calicos with different alignments and found-- When the front of cat is too away from the camera by 1 or 2 pixels gives the Calico tail a GORGEOUS tail curve: ---------------------------------------------------- But when the exact spot of alignment is gotten, sometimes the tail has a kink: (Some judges think that the above photo is not aligned-- the front of the cat is 1 pixel too far away from the camera but this is my preferred alignment for Calicoes) ---------------------------------------------------- Here's another one with what I think is 1 pixel misaligned (front of cat is too close to the camera): But I think judges might prefer this because the tail is sorta less kinked? But I don't like the alignment personally.

I also prefer the 1 pixel misalignement on Calico legs to be on the left side of the leg rather than the right -- that alignement also usually allows for an optimal Calico tail curve.
