Hello everyone. I used to play when I was younger and just recently found Petz again. I'm super into any games with genetics, but then I saw these awesome communities still going for this game. Now I'm interested in all the aspects of Petz. I really want to try it all. I have a few questions that I couldn't quite find answers to anywhere though.
1. I'm a bit confused on OW and Non-OW breed files. I'm not sure why I would overwriting ones when I can just have a new one to pick from. Is there something different with how they breed? Is there a benefit to OW files? I know a bit of how they work I think. If I overwrite the dalmatian for example and then breed a previously adopted dali it would take the new genetics from the OW file, right? Which is something I don't really want. How do you guys utilize OW files and what for?
2. Another term I want to know more about is brexed. Is it a hexed pet that was bred, or a bred pet that was hexed?
3. I really want to get into showing. I only see the normal pose shows though, which is fine, I really want to try those. However, in guidelines for the shows it lists other types like funny or cute. Does anyone still run those types of shows? I think those could be fun too. Also, are there any shows that are for tricks, agility or frisbee?
Thank you for any information you can give me clearing this stuff up. I'm sorry for the long post and all the questions. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and becoming a part of this awesome community.

1. Normally people use OW breed files because when you send the pet to someone else, they don't need to have all the extra files you used to be able to take the pet out. If you use Non-OW you'd have to send along all the breedfiles it needs too. If they're only for you, then it's entirely your preference
2. It's a bred pet that was hexed
3. I think someone just started a few trick/frisbee shows. There sometimes are non-standard shows, but the problem is people don't often enter them, so people stop hosting them :(
Feel free to ask as many questions as you need

Welcome back to Petz!
1. Speaking for myself, I like OW files because they allow me to breed different-looking offspring from petz I already own. Some overwrites also exist to fix specific issues with original breeds, or improve on them in some way (Cargo's sheepdog eye size file fix comes to mind; without it 2nd gen. sheepies have small eyes, this allows the eyes to pass on at a normal size). I also prefer not to include non-OW breedfiles in my lines because it can make petz harder to adopt out as not everyone wants to add a load of breedfiles into their game. I personally don't like to adopt petz that require exra breedfiles. (As I said, just my opinion, and the beauty of the game is there are so many different ways to play).
2. 'Brexed' = a bred pet that was hexed. Can be major changes or minor (most common small change people make is to fix eyelid colour).
3. I've seen some novelty shows being held from time to time both here and on Whiskerwick. Also, new types of show have just been started to be held here by Salem for tricks/frisbee catching which I'm pretty excited about!
Since you're interested in genetics, I'd also like to point you towards GenePoolz, which you can use to check your petz' genetics and is super useful when breeding for specific traits. You might also enjoy having a read around on Intron/Exon.

1. MidnightWolf stated good reasons for it. I'll add in my own to cover a few more possibilities. When I first started with OW files it was because my game would bog down if I put too many Non OW files in. Which is no longer an issue thankfully. The reason I still prefer OW breeds is because I don't have to adopt more petz to breed with the files. (I have collected over 400 petz in the last 18 years, so my wanting to be able to play with everyone every couple of months is becoming an issue. Also there's more color variety when breeding from high generation petz. 3. Some folks over on wiskerwick whiskerwick.boards.net/ are holding trick shows, and Kel told me about a a forum called Duke's Group dj7.proboards.com/ that has other kinds of shows too.

Thank you so much for the replies. I get why I would use the OW files now. I did find one to make the alley cat not flea ridden anymore. I definitely understand not wanting to install extra breed files just to get a pet. I think I'll just install the non-OW for my fun pets like wildz and stuff. Then for breeding just use the base one or OW files. Thank you everyone again for the great info.
