Ratqueen ... Is this the right spot to put it? I wasn't sure because it's definitely not a hexing tutorial XD
Laura 🐹 Here's how I made it, since you thought it was neat :-) There's probably an easier way, but this is what I thought of.
Disclaimer: I'm still working on this. So Your mileage may vary wildly.
I used OpenOffice Calc, but Excel would work.
These columns can be in any order you want. Listing them in the order that worked best for me.
Column A: Leave blank for now. And Skip over a bit.
Column C: List of petz names... One name per cell. Type in name, press enter. It will then drop down to the cell directly below.
If you sort your adopted petz into profiles or folders, I suggest putting: foldername/pet name. or Petza profile/petname
Don't forget to save before going to the next step!
Column F: List of breed files... Same format as Adopted Petz. Foldername/Breedfile-name (i.e Dalmatian/makername_nameoffile)
Don't forget to save before going to the next step!
Shortcut on the listing: For those who don't mind tinkering with command prompt, here's a quick way to make the list of what's in a folder and sub folders. You can copy and paste this into Calc, and it'll format it into cells. Requires clean up though as it lists the whole path of everything in the sub folders (aka dir or directory) I Used DaveM121's Reply (the first one)
Now back to Column A: Put the =Rand() command in the first cell, then copy and paste it, all the way down until it's even with whatever your last name is in the longest of the other columns. Numbers will appear after you past the command into the cell, that's supposed to happen! (The numbers will change every-time you open the file!) I can't remember where I learned about this function but I used this tutorial here to make sure I had the right one.
TIP: After the first 10 or so, you can highlight then copy and paste the whole groups of the rand command. So much faster than one at a time :-)
Don't forget to save before going to the next step.
--------------- How to use it-----------------------
Click the first cell in your column of random numbers.
Ctrl+A to select everything.
Find the button that says Sort Ascending, or Sort Descending and click it.
Now you have a list of pets and/or breed files in a random order.
Other possibilities include a file with a column of males and a column of females for random pairings.
----------------------------------------------------
Anything need to be clearer? I'd love to hear if someone tried to make one and used it ^_^
