I can't believe I never asked this in a virtual pets related forum haha... Self explanatory - would just love to start a discussion with others who play with/collect Tamas if there are any here!

Oooh, me!! I adore Tamas! ^^ I had a camo print Gen 2 when I was little. I played with it for yearsss... it was always attached to my jeans' beltloop! Haha. I still have it here somewhere in storage, but I believe the back may be taped on because I lost the screws for it. I actually recently ordered a brand new one off of Amazon a few weeks back! It's a Gen 1 and the egg is a pastel pink with sprinkles. This design is SO much more me than the camo print one I had growing up. I didn't do a very good job taking care of this Tama though, because it evolved into Tarakotchi! I wasn't able to keep up with his care very well because I had him exclusively kept in my office. Maybe I need to go back to wearing it on my beltloop? Ahahaa Then, on Thursday, I received ANOTHER brand new one from Amazon! I decided to buy a Gen 2 Tama as well. This one has some pretty pastel colors/ombre for the egg design. I haven't unboxed it yet! Here they are:

YES Bunni! This is great!! At the moment I'm sort of trying to only keep to buying and keeping Tamas I'm truly going to cherish and potentially run long term - I have some in storage I'm planning to use as trade fodder or just sell them on, but the ones I have in my actual collection at the moment are: - Tamagochu set (I ran it for several months a while ago and I'll bust it out now and then) - 20th Anniversary Gift m!x set (running, on the 19th generation! trying for a mix that I like enough to keep around for a long time.) - Brand new in packet white Tamagotchi Angel in English (not opening it for now - I received it as a gift and it was very unexpected!) - Transparent green mini, received for christmas a few years ago and I do bust it out sometimes as a quick extra to run - Vodafone Tamagotchi Plus (running this one too - it did die on the second generation but I started again with a new egg which seems to be surviving) And it's not a tama but it is a Bandai vpet - I bought a human player this morning. I'm not sure what kind of condition it's in, but it should come with the box and I can always customise it if it doesn't look to be in great shape. My wishlist contains a few specific tamas... - Japanese Ocean (the English ocean will simply be too hard and expensive to find, but I really want to try running the Ocean some day) - Version 5 and 5.5 - I had these at one point but they degraded in condition so I passed them on. One of my favourite versions to play with though. - Series 1 Nano in the pink bows design... I just think it's neat. - Fantasy meets (unlikely, but a girl can dream.) - Tamagotchi ON of any kind... they didn't release in my country! But I hear Bandai is looking into international distribution! Whew... it's nice to offload that all haha!!

Ooo you have quite the collection smonikkims ! I loved reading about all the ones you have ^^ Sharing your wishlist is such a neat idea too!! I didn't know they had an ocean version. That sounds so cute! Are you a Pokemon fan? I am, and Bandai did a collaboration with Nintendo to release some adorable Eevee Tamas!! That's pretty much top on my wishlist atm. I believe the only place to ship them to Canada though is via eBay. They are very overpriced on there right now... hmm, maybe if I did a more thorough search though, it might be possible to find some online shops that sell Japanese goods to here.

Yeah the Ocean Tama is one of the vintage releases from the 90s ^^
I'm not really a Pokémon fan otherwise I would've probably gotten one of the Eevee Tamas when they were new! Unfortunately since they came out several years ago, their second hand price has gone up a lot. They are pretty though, I love the shell design!

Omigosh... I just looked up Tama Ocean and it's SO cute. I would've died for that version over the original when I was little. I never saw it around though. It looks really difficult to find now. I wish they would remake it so I could snag one off of Amazon like I did my recent Gen1 and Gen2!
I did have a kind of similar virtual pet when I was little though. It was a pink Disney one shaped like a shell... Little Mermaid themed. You took care of 1 of 4 sea creatures. It was one of my favorite VPs and I had around 12 in total, haha.

You never know, it could be released as an app in the future. Devilgotch was only released in Japan, but was released worldwide as a Java based phone app called Tamagotchi Monster! (Bearing in mind you will never find a Devilgotch that isn't at least £300 nowadays...)
The Japanese release of Tamagotchi Ocean goes for about £40 I would say - it's the English release that hits Devilgotch levels of price!
I never really did the whole non-tama vpets thing, but I'm a member of a couple facebook tama groups who are into oddpets too, so I think I have actually seen that Little Mermaid one around!

Not a long shot at all! I've always assumed that the overlap between Petz-players and portable virtual pet-havers was huge.
I saw my first Tamagotchi at one of my best friend's houses in elementary school. Her family was Japanese and had brought one back home with them after visiting family abroad before the fad hit the United States. When it finally exploded over here, my mom actually stood in line at Toys R' Us during her lunch break and bought the per-customer maximum of two Tamas because she wanted to give me a color choice. Thinking about this expression of deep parental love actually gets me teared up when I think about it now.
I display the ones I've kept or reclaimed over the years, although I had many more growing up (a Nanobaby, a dog GigaPet, a Tamagotchi Angel) that I either sold at a garage sale or donated.
At this point I just have my childhood OG yellow egg, my childhood Dinky Dino (Raku Raku Dinokun), a GigaPet Compu Kitty (reclaimed via eBay), my original Tamagotchi Connection 4.5, and a teal Dinky Dino still in its packaging (also a reclaim via eBay). I also have two little beanie-baby-esque plushies of Kuchipatchi and Maskutchi I picked up from a bargain bin in that same Toys R' Us in the late 90s or very early 2000s.
I'll post pictures when I have them hanging up in my new place!
I'm very interested in the new-new Tamagotchi which take double-A batteries and have really involved screens and such. I haven't been keeping up at all with how the devices have progressed, and I saw one sealed up in a locking case in Barnes & Noble recently and thought, "Woah. Virtual pet technology sure has advanced since I was a kid!"
And also, since it's definitely related, I will mention that I still carry my pokéwalker from HeartGold and SoulSilver with me everywhere I go.

Oh that was such a lovely read <3 I'd love to see pics when you can!
I'm actually most interested in the modern tamas these days. I really hope the ON gets released in Britain because it's such a huge deal that we have colour screen tamas in English at all. To see them outside of America would be really special.

I believe the only place to ship them to Canada though is via eBay. They are very overpriced on there right now... hmm, maybe if I did a more thorough search though, it might be possible to find some online shops that sell Japanese goods to here. I really wanted one of those but I've also been trying not to buy so much stuff so I let it go and of course now they are mucho expensive. I am tempted to get a Gundetama while they are still available.
I did recently buy a red Japanese Ocean unboxed because I found a reasonably priced one in the UK on eBay and it's one of the original Japanese tamagotchis that I didn't have yet. I haven't actually run it yet. I've heard that the Ocean is one of the harder ones to keep alive. It's counterpart the Forest Tama is one of my favourites but I've stripped one of the screws on the back so I can't change the battery right now. I'm a bit worried about corrosion to be honest as I had an incident with corrosion and my generic dino vpet which I love. I've heard that trying a bit of rubbing alcohol on the battery contacts may help but I haven't got around to buying some.
Here's a picture of the tamas I have stored next to my desk.
I'll try and get the versions right but from the left: Green Tama-Go, Pink Angelgotch, Japanese Chibi, Purple Tamagotchi Friends, TamaOtch, Blue Tamagotchi Friends, V3 Tamagotchi Connection - cow print, Japanese Nano, I think that's an American Mini - black with flames (someone sent me that one), Orange and purple Music Star, Pink V2 Connection, Japanese Mothra, Morino/Forest Tamagotchi (the box is in another room), green Japanese TMGC+C/Color, Doraemon, Blue 4U, Black Music Star, My generic Dino Vpet - the chip is quite common but the shells are often different - this was one of my first vpets, and the UK Mini for the 20th anniversary - series 2. I think I missed out on the first series.
I also have a Nano Baby, the Ocean and one of the newer Digimon release in my desk drawer and a bunch of the different Connection versions, a P1 and P2 and Osutchi and Mesutchi pair - clear grey/black and probably some miscellaneous pets I'm forgetting about in a box under my bed which I don't have time to dig out right now.
The Santagotchi and the Devilgotchi would be my white whale finds but yeah those prices. Btw I've heard that the screws are also super soft in those so if anyone decides to spurge you may want to change those out ASAP. I also would like more of the colour versions like the M!x but the prices after custom charges is a lot. In an ideal world I'd love one of every type of tama released just so I can try them all.

Oooh Catbaloo! Thank you so much for sharing the pics and info on your amazing collection!! Did you ever play Bubble Bobble before? The art on your generic dino packaging looks just like the blue dino from that game, hehe.

KeyGlyph Your mom was very sweet to wait in line to get you one! Looking at these posts brings back good memories. I didn't have a Tamagatchi as they were too expensive for my family at the time. I had a Nano Kitty (Youtube link), and a GigaPet Dog/Puppy [from BurgerKing], that I wore out. The Burger King one was lots of fun. My best friend at the time found out about it, and she and I put our heads together to get to the Burger King during the Promotion Window. We each got one. It was a huge deal, as our parents were on tight budgets and going to eat was a splurge. The $9 for the Virtual pet after our meal was a LOT of money for us. Later, I made the mistake of buying a Nano Horse. I think it was a 2nd Gen one... There was something wrong with the software. If I didn't play with it for 3 hours, it died. Even if I put it to bed for a nap. No matter how many times I restarted it. So I eventually gave up. Bunni The Eevee ones are Adorable, it's a shame they aren't making them in the US.

I can't believe I've only just found this thread! Yes, I'm a long-time Tamagotchi collector! My collection is tiny at the moment, but I love each device with all my heart - I'm taking my time to complete my wishlist, especially as it looks like virtual pet prices have really gone up recently.
I'm curious, what are your thoughts on the new Tamagotchi Pix? I was pretty excited until I found out about the emphasis on the 'social media' aspect of it.
