Ah, I'm new but not really to petz. I used to play 5 as a kid, but I just got into it again not very long ago. No more than a couple weeks I believe. I've kinda become obsessed with it. I've been messing around with hexing stuff and breeding mutant hybrids. I've seen these boards around and figured I'd join.
Guess I'll fill out this space with some basic information.
My name is Sid or Sigmund or Skiddo, with no particular preference.
Favorite animals: Goats. And ferrets, rats, snakes, and cats. I like horses but they're very inconvenient for my life irl.
Favorite petz breed: Ah, Egyptian Mau, honestly. Just because that was the one I grabbed first when I re-downloaded the games.
Hobbies: Music (I play a couple instruments), writing, drawing, the arts in general.
I have 4 pets irl, 3 goats and 1 very acrobatic cat.
It's late here and I can't think of anything else.
So yeah, nice to meet everyone!

KeyGlyph Currently I play bass guitar, but I also used to play a lot of acoustic guitar and clarinet. Haven't touched them in a while though. I also play bari sax in a school jazz band (or I would, but things are on hold and I'm very new to the instrument). I would love to play a lot of other instruments, including bagpipes and the hurdy gurdy, but they're expensive. I've played in school bands and even a college orchestra for several years now. Also thanks for the recommendations!

Skiddo, I'm also a clarinet! (Do you call musicians/students in band by their instrument name too, instead of with an -ist on the end?) And I picked up ukulele during the pandemic... my first fretted string instrument ever. I'm having success with it, which totally surprised me. And hurdy-gurdy, eh?? Any reason for interest in that one? I'm also a lover of less common instruments. I saved up for a long time to buy a hammer dulcimer, which sadly I eventually sold to help facilitate a move, but last year I bought a concertina, which I've been dabbling in. Maybe we should start a pirate band, hahaha.

KeyGlyph I haven't picked up the clarinet in over a year, unfortunately. School and stress caused me to have a falling out with music for a while, so I actually didn't start playing anything again until quarantine. With classes started up again, I haven't been as diligent (especially since I rediscovered petz and just...fixated on that. its ridiculous. I would've sworn up and down less than a month ago that I hated code of any sort and would never learn to use it. And now, countless hours deep in html and hex editing, I still hate it.) I like the hurdy-gurdy mostly because I used to listen to a band called Garmarna (still quite enjoy it) and others like them. Niche instruments are fun, I also really like the nyckelharpa, if you know that one. I've never played the ukulele, but I wish you luck with it! Unfortunate to have to lose the dulcimer, they're really interesting, but concertinas are also pretty neat. I constantly forget they exist. Also pirate bands are epic and sea shanties are a superior form of music. Also also, who even puts an -ist at the end when referring to the player outside of like formal writing? Hmmm, mind if I ask what your favorite niche instrument, that you don't have is? I want all of them, but don't have any really. Sad.

Skiddo, don't feel bad about not having played clarinet in a year. I think it's been over a decade since I've used mine, yikes! But that's what's glorious about good instruments... they're always there when you're ready to pick them up again. I am big into sea shanties. No lie. I have three CDs of them, two books, and I've been to the Mystic Seaport Sea Shanty Festival in Connecticut. If you've never been to that, and you have even a passing interest in the golden age of sail, YOU MUST GO. It's an incredible event. My favorite niche instrument? That's a tough one. I'd say that the one that intrigues me the most right now in terms of learning to play it, other than the concertina and ukulele (although classifying ukulele as niche is probably debatable at this point), is the taiko drum. I was actually thinking about taking lessons in taiko before the pandemic hit. Also, on the topic of sailing ships and so on, for any who are nautically inclined, I highly recommend the mystery/puzzle game The Return of the Obra Dinn. It's just incredible, especially if old-timey ocean stuff is your jam.
KeyGlyph I have a hammer dulcimer!!!! Whaaa!!! Whaaaaaaaa!! Where did you get it? We may have bought ours from the same artisan! And can you play it well?! Man, I loved the feeling of using it -- the lilting rhythm of using the hammers. Please tell me you have footage or recordings of your playing. PleeeeEEeEEEaaAAse. Yo, I love talking about instruments, folks. <3

KeyGlyph Oh I love taiko drums. I had the benefit of going to a taiko drum performance by a traditional group from Japan when they visited my city. (And my school, it was really neat to see them twice). I checked out the game and it looks really interesting. Never been to a festival before(well, other than ren fest. Which is cancelled this year. Very sad, I was supposed to get a sword), but I have visited and been on some old ships at museums before, including the one at the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, Scotland, while on a trip. Old ships and sailing are very interesting to me in theory, but I unfortunately am not super fond of the actual water. (Also thanks to all the people who have welcomed me these past few days, and sorry for not responding, I really do appreciate it.)
