Soooo. Sasha posted this picture of a little...accident...that happened when her Petz bred with a horse OW in-game. xDD I offered to fix him, and she sent me two to fix, siblings!
Little did I know how crazy this would get. Usually when I fix mixies as...severe as these, I copy-paste one of my bred Petz' looks onto them and try to make the colors and markings match as best I can, to recreate the pet as naturally as possible. Somehow this went entirely differently.
---
This is (temporarily named) Oh No. For obvious reasons. She was...odd. When she comes out, all you see are the ears flicking around near the top of the screen...and yet the actual pet you see pictured here is below the screen...where you can't see without taking a picture! (And even then, sometimes it goes black!) Sasha actually thought she was invisible because she seems unable to come up from way down there. And...she put clothes on her to try and find her. Which only gave me an even bigger WTF(rick) moment when I took a picture and saw what was hiding down below. x'DDD Beautiful clothing choice, Sasha! LOL
But when I saw that AMAZING shape...I thought to myself...wow, I have -got- to salvage this horse-headed Dachshund somehow!! This is perfection!!
When I opened it up in Pet Workshop...I was uh...kind of freaked out???
This thing's entire body shaded SO DRAMATICALLY that it kept trying to crash PW, and it's not even supposed to do that. And the neck...what....as I tilted it upward to look for the head, it got...horrifying!! It looks like some kind of god or monster you'd see in a video game!! xDDD Anyway, I couldn't do anything. It crashed every few seconds, the balls could be moved down, but individually and there were a LOT of head balls and just...it wasn't going to work. It would have been badly deformed and likely wouldn't even move properly in-game.
I needed another idea for how to save this. Then Sasha fed me some more info that sparked my next plan. She told me she thinks it did this in PW because it's not the PW safe version of the horse file. Hey...
So I went and grabbed the PW safe version...AND I BRED MY OWN to try and recreate the shape!!
---
That won't work.
That either. And uh. She looks like she has a...male part...but it's a tail. So it wags. Doubly disturbing.
Nope, not even the right face.
You might think, "Oh hey, a normal horse!" No. Look carefully at where the head and neck meet. They're disconnected. What does that mean? Sometimes in-game, the head just...pops off. =.=
It's at this point I'm feeling very sorry for these guys. x'DDD
This...this one amuses me...I'll get back to this one, so keep it in mind. xD
And then...finally, I did it. HE'S PERFECT. xDDD I dubbed him Sigh, because that's just how I was feeling about my choices at the time.
---
Because he was bred with the PW safe horse, this meant I COULD edit his file to my liking! And once I did, he could share his shape with Oh No, and all would be well! First I had to do some serious tweaking. Sigh's hanging dachshund ears had to go. I then discovered, to my delight, if I grabbed the right ball...THE ENTIRE HEAD moved down at once!! THIS was a saving grace in this mission. I don't know WHAT I would have done without it and it shaved off hours of suffering. xDDD
So, I removed the ears, moved the head down, and connected it better to the body.
...And apparently I changed the size when I was moving the head, and I forgot to change it back. Oops.
That was a quick fix. Now we can see...we were getting somewhere! But his hair was short, only atop his head (he had a toupee xDDD) and it kinda floated, and he had no ears. By this point I went to bed, and fixed it the following day...
Honestly...I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with my makeshift ears and hair extensions:
He's so cute now, right??
I now had the shape I needed for Oh No! So, Sigh shared his lnz. Now, I COULD have gone super-duper fancy, but I wanted to leave the colors/patterns that Oh No inherited as best I could, so she turned out super simple, but I kind of love her??
....Don't look at me like that!!
---
So yay!! I decided, since this shape is so dang quirky and cute, to re-use it for Sigh's horse-faced siblings and make their colors/patterns match as best I could to their original forms too. I mean, they have to be put out of their misery, right? xD
Here's how that turned out:
Sundapple!
Barndance!
Pocket Pony!
And Thomahawk, who went to live with my sister!
Simple, but cute right?? But wait a minute, there were two Dachshund-faced mixies, plus the one Sasha sent me that STARTED all of this!! xD What about them? I wanted to keep their face shapes, and well...remember this girl?
(As seen with her confused dad xDD) Well...she was inspiring. How I wanted to connect those legs, and have the body shape WORK. In my past experience, that -never- works. The legs, if moved, usually go wonky and are a complete mess. But hey, I had to try it.
---
TO MY COMPLETE AND UTTER SURPRISE...IT WORKED!! Again, I was able to move the entire leg by finding the right ball, and I connected them to the body and they continue to move either exactly the same, or almost the same...it was so close I couldn't even tell for sure! Legs is now the tallest Dachshund ever! xDDD Don't get me wrong, she's all kinds of weird and wonky, but it WORKS.
In my excitement, I rush off to fix her brother aaaaand-
Somehow...I turned him into a giant M! D8 WHAT THE HECK?! It was LITERALLY a copy-paste and color change....there was no possible way for this to have happened. I was at a loss...unless...on a hunch, I also copied over the Puppy lnz from Legs, which I MIGHT have forgot to do...
And...that did it?? It shouldn't have done anything, but...okay, whatever! xDD Now Stilts looks much nicer!!
And then...we were brought back...to (temporarily named) Wut. Ohhhh what a mess he is.
But he seems to like his new look, weird though it may be!! xDDD
---
Watching these adorable little freaks of nature is endlessly entertaining...but, I DID keep them rather simple...
Finally, I couldn't resist the urge any longer. I wanted to copy this base, and hex a few, just so I could play with some designs. And here's how THAT ended up going:
---
The first, and possibly my favorite that I made, went to Perichan, my sister, along with Thomahawk! This is Oreo Sandwich! (...Don't ask about the name, my brain was mush at this point xD) Using my sister's favorite color scheme, I tried to replicate her favorite horse breed, the gypsy vanner! We both agree that she is pretty epic. xDD Photogenic too!
Then I made this one, called Happydance, for Bec! Because she loves (and has) horses, and just...she needs one. xDD It's tricky hexing Petz for Bec and my sister because they have the same favorite color combo...black and white with blue eyes!! I have to find ways to make them unique! xDD I kinda love how this one turned out too, honestly!!
And this one, Traveller, is mine! I feel like his face came out too plain...but it's made up of SO many small balls, that paintballs look kinda funny on them...so I improvised. He has speckles down the top of his snout, kind of like freckles, so his face does have something going on! xD
And finally, I made one for midnightwolf to cheer him up! I mean, how can a goofy pocket pony not make someone smile, at least for a moment?? xD I called him Dead Horse...because when I first showed these to MidnightWolf, he typo'd and said something about 'the big dead one is funny' or whatever it was. Confused me for a moment until I realized it was supposed to say HEAD. So, since his horse dog is apparently dead...I named it as such. So I guess he has an undead horse dog thing. xDDD
---
AND FINALLY...that's it!! My horse-headed dog nightmare is over and I can focus on other Petzy things that have piled up in the meantime! xDDD Even though this took forever to sort through and figure out, it was worth it! I love the way the pocket ponies turned out, LOL!
Thanks a ton for looking, and thanks for the fun, Sasha! (And for letting me keep Oh No and Wut! xDD They'll be getting proper names soon!)
And lastly...I'm tagging Nostalgic because I told her to watch out for this thread. xDD IT'S HEEEEERE! xDD I'm gonna go to bed now, and hopefully not dream of horse-headed dogs.
