Oh guys, I am freaking out. I used to be super involved in the Petz Community as a kid, had a website for years and it was the springboard to my career in graphic & web design. Now I'm 33 with two sons... reinstalled Petz on a whim today to show my 3-year-old and later had trouble with it taking forever to load. I thought googling a fix was a long shot but OH MY GOSH there is a message board with the solution and WHAT, there is an ACTIVE PETZ COMMUNITY?! I am so happy. SO HAPPY! It's all here, even the old show ranks! I could cry. Now please excuse me while I scour external hard drives for .pet files from 2001!

Welcome, rhococo! We're almost the same age, and we both had that freak-out moment when we discovered an active Petz community in modern times. Isn't it great?
Lucky Kennelz sounds really familiar, I have to say. I wonder if I ever adopted from you? Do you have any screenshots or anything from your old site?
And I love knowing that Petz launched your career. What a story.

Thanks Astra & keyglyph!! Possible! Thanks to the Wayback Machine I was able to get a screenshot. It was most active around 1999-2003. I am just having the best time! I managed to find backups of some of my fave Petz and am going to try and breed my first litters in just about twenty years, hah! I love this. I love you guys!

Lucky Kennelz sounds familiar. About 2001 was when I first got involved in the community, though I'm not sure when you left. But welcome back! Glad to see a lot of people returning to the community lately.

Welcome back! I love how this game draws in folks who played it back in the beginning. And don't feel bad about the age, m'dear. I was 33 when I started playing in '98. I now enjoy it with my granddaughter, who gets interested occasionally.

Thanks all!! Yes! It really is a game for any age! If I open the game within earshot of my son, he zooms over! If I can ever play this with my grandchildren, I will consider myself truly blessed!

Welcome! The layout of that site looks so nice, and I so wish I was involved in the community when I was a kid, hah, but no Internet at home didn't lend itself well to me ever realizing it existed! But it's been great now that I've found it, and hope you find it's still that way from when you first got involved! This game really is timeless, simple enough that I loved it as a tiny human, but with enough complexity beneath the surface to compel adults with hexing and showing and selective breeding projects. With luck, you can find some of your old petz and pick up right where you left off!

BAWWW~ that classic web 1.0 website! It's giving me life.
It's also super well-designed. I'm not surprised you got into professional web development; you were already excelling at it.
I gotta know, did you use invisible tables for your contents? Because back then I was all about frames in my websites, and like... yeeeaah. Haha! You were much more UI-savvy.

On that note, welcome back to the Petz Community!

Welcome back to the Petz Community! your site looked like it was very cute, and it's brilliant how petz set you on the track to web design sometimes I wish I was a 90's kid (born in 2001) just so I could have had early experiences with Petz and the huge PC back in the day like a lot of people did, but thankfully we still a nice active community nowadays. Petz is part of all of us and it makes me feel like a 90's kid xD

MsWildiful, you were born the same year I started PLAYING Dogz. I just love that.
If you're really interested in the retro tech, it's still possible to find old Win95/98 towers kicking around on the internet or at thrift stores and computer meetups. I'm a huge lover of retro technology, so I say it's never too late to go backwards. Go for the original hardware if it makes your heart sing!
